Jinder Mahal is getting a world heavyweight title shot on Raw next week

WWE decided a great way to bring The Rock back for a special surprise appearance on Monday Night Raw last week was to troll the ever loving hell out of its audience by first introducing Jinder Mahal, teasing that he was the “former WWE champion” who had been rumored to appear. It was a great swerve, one that gave us quite a few fun pictures/videos of the contrast in reaction to both entrances.

Ultimately, Mahal was fodder for Rock, an easy target for verbal and physical abuse. He was there to put The Rock over, and he did his job about as well as anyone could have hoped for.

Here’s the fun part — he’s now the number one contender to the world heavyweight championship!

During Raw this week, Mahal interrupted Seth Rollins to do some ranting and raving about being disrespected and underestimated. Rollins responded by offering up a free shot. Jinder didn’t bite until the champ turned his back, and a scuffle ensued. It was later announced that they’ll settle this next week in a match for the world heavyweight championship.

Rubbing elbows with The Rock, even if you’re the butt of all his jokes and get physically dominated, has its benefits after all.

WWE also announced the following for next week’s show:

  • Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER returns to television
  • DIY vs. Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh
  • Awesome Truth vs. Finn Balor & Damian Priest
