WWE pulled a fast one with way more people watching NXT

The ratings and viewership data are in for the Jan. 2 edition of WWE NXT.

According to Wrestlenomics, the show averaged 768,000 viewers and scored a 0.25 rating among 18-49 year olds. These numbers are both way up compared to last week’s pre-taped show (670K, 0.19), and are NXT’s best results in both metrics going back to early November.

This was the special New Year’s Evil episode of NXT, where WWE pulled a fast one by canceling the advertised main event championship match between Ilja Dragunov and Trick Williams. Dragunov was not medically cleared in kayfabe due to Ridge Holland injuring his neck a couple weeks ago. The bigger audience that tuned in this week didn’t get to see that title match, but they did get to see Kevin Owens punch Grayson Waller in the face again, so there was still plenty of fun to be had here.

These are great results to kick off the new year for the black and gold brand, so it will be very interesting to see where the numbers go from here with Trick Williams continuing his pursuit of the NXT championship.

Here’s a rundown of NXT’s audience and ratings share of the 18-49 demographic over the past year:
