WWE NXT NEW YEAR’S EVIL RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JAN. 2

The angels gather slowly around the sacred city Hell. Gabriel screams a vengeance of the land as the angels fell. Martyrs pray disaster for the land of hate and scorn, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a video package about the nature of evil or something.

Blair Davenport vs. Lyra Valkyria (c) (NXT Women’s Championship)

Feeling out, back and forth, big hip toss from the champion, side headlock, shift to a cravate, hard whip across, up and over, sunset flip reversed, Davenport looking for a Gory Special but Valkyria reverses to a snapmare! Back body drop to the apron, Blair snaps her over the ropes and goes up top!

Lateral press, Lyra kicks out and Blair goes into a reverse chinlock to choke the life out of her. Strike rush from the champion when she gets out, windmill punches into lariats, whip reversed, crossbody connects! Diving crossbody, sheerdrop brainbuster connects but the champ is slow to capitalize!

Davenport nails her with an elbow, Valkyria fires back with a leg-trap German suplex! Up top and jockeying for position... BLAIR DAVENPORT AVALANCHE FALCON ARROW! Throwing Lyra into the barricade, looking for a hard knee against the announce desk but Valkyria ducks and Blair jams her knee hard into the furniture!

Back inside, Blair beats the count but her knee gives out! Lyra looking for Chaos Theory, blocked, Davenport double jumps, double stomp, nobody home! Reverse roundhouse from Valkyria, hossing her up...

Lyra Valkyria wins by pinfall with a twisting Michinoku Driver, retaining the NXT Women’s Championship.

Lola Vice comes to ringside with her contract but Tatum Paxley cuts her off before she can cash it in! Elektra Lopez joins her pal and we get a brawl between all four women as referees try to pull them apart!

Kelly Kincaid has a medical update for us, telling us that medical will not clear Ilja Dragunov to wrestle tonight and that she’s gonna try and get a comment from Trick Williams.

Latino World Order (Carlito, Cruz del Toro, & Joaquin Wilde) vs. No Quarter Catch Crew (Damon Kemp, Drew Gulak, & Myles Borne)

Gulak and Del Toro to start, trading wristlocks while Vic Joseph talks about Charlie Dempsey being off wrestling for All Japan Pro Wrestling, what a world. Back body drop sets Cruz up in the ropes, he springboards into a crossbody for two! LWO double slingshot Wilde into all three NQCC boys!

Back inside, missile dropkick takes Gulak off his feet, Carlito running hot, Latino World Order in control, Wilde with a corkscrew moonsault! Kemp the only man left on his team, Cruz legal...

Latino World Order win by pinfall with a Phoenix Splash from Cruz del Toro on Damon Kemp.

Post-match, Carlito spits the apple in Drew Gulak’s face, which is obviously a mistake because Drew Gulak is VERY cool.

Trick Williams is interviewed backstage and says he’ll take his time and fight Ilja Dragunov when he’s ready. Carmelo Hayes tries to make the argument that he should just win the title by forfeit but before Trick and weigh in Grayson Waller rolls up to talk trash.

They go back and forth, Hayes says Trick needs somebody to fight and they goad Grayson. He stands firm against the match until Melo offers up Trick’s title match and then Waller accepts while Williams record scratches and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a video package for NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament finalist Riley Osborne.

Arianna Grace vs. Roxanne Perez

Off the ropes, big crossbody from Perez, La Casita shift into an O’Connor roll, only a nearfall! Back suplex lift, Roxanne lands on her feet, duck a lariat, Arianna blasts her with a boot! Grace cuts her off, kneeling rear chinlock, Perez on the comeback, corner striking, mounted punches, Arianna smashes her face into the turnbuckles and takes her down!

Perez gets the better of her...

Roxanne Perez wins by pinfall with Pop Rox.

Post-match, Perez hammers her with mounted punches and grabs an arm-trap crossfae as well, cranking it back as referees try to break it up. Eventually the ring announcer informs us that the referee has reversed his decision due to Perez’s continued assault.

Arianna Grace wins by disqualification.

Ava Raine is interviewed backstage and finally explains that she’s stepping up to be “Heartbreak Man” Shawn Michaels’ assistant and informs us the men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will start next week.

We get a video package for Tiffany Stratton vs. Fallon Henley and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Nikkita Lyons confronts Blair Davenport backstage.

Nikkita says taking Blair out here or in the parking lot doesn’t bring her any closer to the title, so she’s gonna do it right. They bicker, crew arrive to separate them, and that’s that.

Fallon Henley vs. Tiffany Stratton

Hard-hitting back and forth early, Stratton slams Henley into the apron and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Henley with a big crossbody, crucifix driver... SO CLOSE! Prettiest Moonsault Ever, nobody home, Fallon up top, bodyscissors sends Tiffany to the floor with her! Back inside, Henley lines her up...

Fallon Henley wins by pinfall with a sliding knee, ensuring that Tiffany Stratton has to be her ranch hand for a day.

Baron Corbin chats with Bron Breakker backstage.

He wants Bron to drop the tough guy act for a minute and talk about the Dusty Classic, where he thinks they’d be a good team. Bron is skeptical but Corbin points out they’re both assholes and they can destroy everyone and then win the tag titles together.

We get a hype reel for NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament finalist Oba Femi.

We see Ridge Holland getting prepped for an interview and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a Vengeance Day hype reel.

Gigi Dolin is holding court in the locker orom when Cora Jade rolls up to stick her nose in her business. She tells Gigi off for being in her locker and Dolin mock apologizes, saying you can’t expect people to respect your locker if you don’t respect theirs, the confrontation boils over, and that’s that.

Ridge Holland has a sitdown interview.

He talks about his history with injuries, first blowing both his legs out before WarGames 2020, talking about how much he respects Ilja Dragunov and how he doesn’t want to be seen as a monster when he’s just a man.

Thea Hail rolls up on Riley Osborne to say she’ll be out there cheering for him. He high fives her and she predictably loses her mind about touching the boy she likes.

Oba Femi vs. Riley Osborne (NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament Finals)

Osborne with kicks, Femi swats a dropkick away, front chancery applied, Oba passes him to the floor and back inside as we go to break.

Back from commercial, Femi with the bear hug and I can hardly bear it! Osborne struggling, throwing forearms, Oba grabs a waistlock but he escapes with a pair of jawbreakers! Femi cuts him off, Riley sidesteps the charge and posts him! Big right hand, whip reversed, looking for a crucifix, shift to a sunset flip, Oba blocks!

Osborne ducks a lariat, big tijeras, dropkick, standing corkscrew moonsault... NOPE! Off the top, nobody home, Femi with Snake Eyes, huge tossing Blue Thunder Driver...

Oba Femi wins by pinfall with a powerbomb.

Out the Mud cut a promo on the D’Angelo Family saying that when they’re done, all that’ll be left of the Family is a nickname.

Izzi Dame and Kiana James are interviewed.

Dame calls everyone on the internet owls and says Kiana has the best brain in WWE and choosing her waws a no-brainer. James says Izzi is loyal to a T and willing to step on anyone to get where she’s going. Kiana says she’s here to make friends AND money and in 2024 she’s going to make sure everyone knows who Izzi Dame is.

Trick Williams is backstage upset at Carmelo Hayes for putting his title shot on the line. Melo says when he’s champ he’s gonna take on all comers and he needs the practice and further he believes in him and he’ll be by his side the whole way. Trick stops him short and tells him he’s gonna do this by himself. Melo gives him crap for it and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Thea Hail is excited and wants to text Riley Osborne or maybe buy him a gift card, and Duke Hudson and Andre Chase roll up.

Chase says Riley represented Chase U with pride and they need to gear up for the Dusty Classic. Jacy Jayne tells him she’s taking charge and Andre is going to focus on clearing the debt while Hudson and Osborne team. She’s gonna dig down and bring Chase U up from the depths of hell and back into profit.

They go off together and Tatum Paxley rolls up on Lyra Valkyria to be a weird fangirl at her.

Axiom and Nathan Frazer are chatting backstage.

Axiom wants to be in the Dusty Classic together and Nathan is all about it, talking trash about the established teams in the division as Malik Blade and Edris Enofe roll up behind them and Frazer slowly realizes it.

The D’Angelo Family cut a promo at OTM about how a deal is a deal and they’re gonna fight next week. They finally formally introduce us to the glue of the D’Angelo Family, Adrianna Rizzo. They go to get in the car and Joe Gacy pops out of the trunk, explaining he needed a quiet place to think.

As for the guy he replaced, he thought he was going to the bridge, so, uh... see ya!

Commentary hypes next week’s show up.

Grayson Waller vs. Trick Williams (c) (NXT Championship #1 Contender’s Match)

Jawing at each other, Waller with a hard right hand, punches into the corner, body blows, action to the floor, Grayson in control and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Williams gets a suplex for some breathing room. Trick punching his way into the corner, beating him down, but Waller cuts him off into a half-crab! Trick crawls and gets the ropes to force the break! Grayson jawing at him, Williams cuts him down with a flapjack, hung over the ropes, rolling thunder countered into a huge haymaker... SO CLOSE!

Another big nearfall, Waller’s foot on the ropes, Grayson gets his own nearfall in return! Waller off the top, nobody home, jumping neckbreaker from Trick Willy! Carmelo Hayes runs down, Trick argues with him Grayson taking a breather... AND KEVIN OWENS IS HERE TO KNOCK HIM OUT WITH ONE PUNCH!

KO throws him back in the ring and Trick is ready for him...

Trick Williams wins by pinfall with a rising knee, retaining his #1 contendership for the NXT Championship.

That’s the show, folks.
