WWE’s made it pretty clear that a Roman Reigns vs. Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson match is happening. But they haven’t made it clear when.
So since Rocky showed up on the New Years Day episode of Raw last week, there’s been a ton of conversation about when Reigns will wrestle his movie star cousin. For people invested in Cody Rhodes getting another chance to finish his story against Roman at WrestleMania 40, the hope/belief has been that the latest clash of Samoans would happen at Elimination Chamber next month is Perth, Australia. That would leave the Tribal Chief free for an April rematch with Rhodes in Philadelphia.
Unfortunately, that’s just rumor — at least accoring to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s sources. While Dave Meltzer hasn’t confirmed Rock/Reigns is happening at WrestleMania, or what role Cody might play in their match there if it does, he has confirmed that Roman isn’t even scheduled to be in Australia for Elimination Chamber. Per Meltzer, Reigns has “never been advertised and there are no plans for him for that date [Feb. 24] right now.”
Where does that leave the American Nightmare? Can he stay hot until WrestleMania 41 to finish his story? Would facing Roman at SummerSlam be a let down? Will fans put up with another year of Reigns as part-time champ?
It’s shaping up to be a very interesting road to WrestleMania... buckle up.
