WWE NXT results, live blog (May 9, 2023): Bron Breakker vs. Trick Williams

Here's a place to check results and comment along with the newest episode of WWE NXT, airing live on Tuesday night at 8PM Eastern time slot on USA Network.

Advertised for tonight’s show from the WWE Performance Center: NXT champ Carmelo Hayes’ guy Trick Williams steps to Bron Breakker as their title rematch at Battleground looms! Gallus’ Wolfgang & Mark Coffey put their Tag belts on the line against The Dyad’s Rip Fowler & Jagger Reid! Dijak & Ilja Dragunov go one-on-one in what promises to be a brutal affair, Nathan Frazer brings us another edition of his “Hard Hitting Home Truths” show-within-the-show, and the reunited Briggs & Jensen take on Tank Ledger & Hank Walker! Plus, Charlie Dempsey vs. Tyler Bate, and Chase U’s substitute teacher Duke Hudson will try to teach Big Body Javi a lesson! Last but not least... the start of the Women’s title tournament!

WWE NXT RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 9

Heroes aren’t born, they’re cornered and this corner is where we write the story. Two tribes warring downtown after hours, the best to you each morning before I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a recap of Indi Hartwell relinquishing the NXT Women’s Championship last week.

The participants in the NXT Women’s Championship tournament are arrayed on the stage and Tiffany Stratton and Gigi Dolin get inset promos about how they’re gonna win the tournament before starting us off.

Gigi Dolin vs. Tiffany Stratton (NXT Women’s Championship Tournament First Round Match)

Back and forth early, double stomp from Stratton, seated armbreaker, seated armbar, double stomp to the hand! Hammerlock, Gigi sidesteps, cover for two! Arm wringer, trading strikes, Dolin with lariats, front kick, Tiffany with a double knee armbreaker!

Stratton follows it up with a back handspring elbow, roundhouse kick, Gigi tries for a Cobra Twist and it gets blocked, Tiffany with the Finlay Roll! Double jump...

Tiffany Stratton wins by pinfall with a double jump moonsault.

We see Gallus walking backstage before cutting to Joe Gacy giving the Dyad a pep talk before telling Ava Raine that his attention will be elsewhere but he trusts her to take care of business.


Back from commercial we get a barber shop video with Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes talking about Bron Breakker and how Trick is gonna beat Bron for himself.

Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) (c) vs. the Dyad (Jagger Reid & Rip Fowler) (NXT Tag Team Championship)

Brawling before the bell, referee calls for it and we’re off! Coffey working Reid over, side headlock, into the corner, double Regal Cutter with a tag to Wolfgang! Keeping the pressure up, but Jagger gets away and tags Fowler in!

Rip tearing at Wolfgang’s face, tag to Fowler and the Dyad are in control as we go to break!

Back from commercial, Fowler keeps Coffey in the corner, tag to Reid, boot up, up and over, superkick and a throat thrust cut Mark off! Jagger with a front chancery, grinding him down, back body drop shakes him off and Wolfgang tags in! Cleaning house with strikes, stampeding Reid into the corner, whip across, big crossbody!

Diving double axhandle, scoop and a slam, big senton and the Gallus man stays in control! Tag to Coffey, big slam, only two! Deep folding press, not enough, Gallus boys with a tag, Ava Raine gets up on the apron, catapult and the delay is enough for Reid to hit a DDT on Coffey!

Tag to Fowler, Ivy Nile at ringside beating Ava down to the point where the Creed Brothers have to pull her off! Gallus get it together...

Gallus win by pinfall with the boot o’ doom on Rip Fowler to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Chase U are hanging out backstage and Big Body Javi is making trouble but Duke Hudson tells him he doesn’t even go here and we go to break.


Back from commercial we get a video package of somebody watching all the attacks on NXT women lately on a bunch of monitors.

Duke Hudson vs. Javier Bernal

Collar and elbow, into the corner, Hudson shoves Bernal down, they go around the ring and come back in and Big Body lays in some stomps! Javi taunting, Duke off the ropes, shoulder block, scoop and a slam, Bernal begs off but kicks Hudson’s leg out of his leg!

Big DDT, sliding lariat, cover for two! Stomps, reverse chinlock applied, Duke powers up, elbows, side slam, a little Flip, Flop, & Fly and a lariat and a senton follow! Slingshot into a German suplex, up for a powerbomb...

Duke Hudson wins by pinfall with a Razor’s Edge.

Robert Stone and Von Wagner are walking backstage and do an exercise where Stone asks for his favorite things before whipping out the picture of Von as a messed-up baby.

Wagner refuses to talk about it and then beats up some guy who was right there with a smart-ass remark before mocking Stone’s choice of pistachio ice cream as his favorite.

Eddy Thorpe makes his entrance to send us to break.


Back from commercial, Gallus are walking backstage and celebrating their win when they run into the Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile.

Gallus tell them to stay out of their business, bickering ensues and they talk about having a fight.

Damon Kemp vs. Eddy Thorpe

Collar and elbow, Kemp with a side headlock, arm wringer, inverted arm drag and Thorpe is feeling it! Waistlock takedowns from Damon, Eddy gets the ropes and Kemp breaks dirty by piefacing him. Side headlock, shot off, up and over, duck a lariat, headlock takeover to ground Damon down!

Kemp reverses, headlock takeover of his own, off the ropes, leapfrog, big crossbody takes him down! Thorpe with chops, suplex denied, uppercut, slingshot Jackhammer... NOPE! Mounted forearms, raining them down, Death Valley Driver for two!

Grounded Cobra Twist, whip across, back elbow, solebutt, enzuigiri, big boot, German suplex! Thorpe off the ropes...

Eddy Thorpe wins by pinfall with an elbow drop.

Backstage, Kiana James is interviewed about her spot in the Women’s Championship Tournament.

She says she has the toughest first round matchup, but she works great under pressure and she’s checking things off her list and the NXT Women’s Championship is next.

Ilja Dragunov makes his entrance and we go to break.


Back from commercial, Bron Breakker is interviewed in the locker room.

He says there’s no change in his attitude, he just stopped caring. For over a year he carried NXT on his back and what did it get him? Nothing. The NXT Universe chose Melo, and that’s fine because he’s still picking splinters out of his ass after he speared him through the set.

Breakker tells Carmelo Hayes that he’s gonna put Trick Williams in the same hospital that he put Hayes in tonight.

Donovan Dijak vs. Ilja Dragunov

Dragunov with a leg pick trip and a big knee, chops in the corner, more chops and Dijak goes down! Bombs Away knee drop, Dragunov goes up top but Tall Don cuts him off and knocks him to the floor! Headed out after a breather, Dijak throws him back inside, cover... NOPE!

Trading forearms in the middle of the ring, Ilja gets a head of steam going, knocking Dijak into the ropes, knee gets an enzuigiri and both guys are on their knees! Waistlock, Donovan breaks it, goozle4 applied, Dragunov out, going for the Constantine Special but he can’t get a rebound!

Kicks, both guys down on the mat, Dragunov draws him up but Dijak slips out... CYCLONE KILL CAN’T KEEP THE UNBESIEGBAR CZAR DOWN! Donovan gets a chair, frustrated, and hammers Ilja with it...

Ilja Dragunov wins by disqualification.

Post-match, Dijak continues to attack Dragunov, trapping him under the steel steps and climbing on them to crush him!

Tyler Bate is steaming in the locker room when Wes Lee rolls up for a chat and hypes him up to go do the deal.

And so we go to break.


Back from commercial we get a social media video from Dani Palmer of her getting advice from Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs and Tank Ledger and Hank Walker.

Charlie Walker vs. Tyler Bate

Trading uppercuts out the gates, Bate with an exploder suplex and a standing shooting star press... NOPE! Fireman’s carry, Dempsey floats out of it, Tyler with a back elbow, Charlie gets a butterfly suplex into a bridge! Bate with a headlock, working strikes in, leg pick countered into a cover!

Pinfall exchange, headscissors sends him flying and both men are down are out! Trading uppercuts, Dempsey with an octopus hold, Tyler with an airplane spin into a slam! Joe Gacy at ringside to chat with Wes Lee, Bate takes him out with a dive!

Back inside, Bop and Bang, Gulak up on the apron, Gacy with a cheap shot, Dempsey takes advantage...

Charlie Dempsey wins by pinfall with a bridging Dragon suplex.

We see Carmelo Hayes leaving the barber shop.

Briggs and Jensen make their entrance and we go to break.


Back from commercial, Dragon Lee is interviewed.

He says Noam Dar only cares about himself and his Heritage Cup—

Noam appears on the TV behind Lee and says he comes bearing gifts. They got off on the wrong foot but he’ll be the bigger and the better man and offer him a prestigious opportuntiy to be the first official guest on the relaunch of the Supernova Sessions.

Dragon says he’ll be there.

Briggs and Jensen (Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs) vs. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger

Walker and Jensen brawling on the floor, Briggs and Ledger legal, tag to Walker and they work Josh over! Back suplex gets Briggs some separation, tag to Brooks, whip into a double shoulder block, standing slam, elbow drops, trading shots, whip across, big shoulder block from Hank!

Stampeding Brooks into the corner, tag to Ledger, Stinger Splash, body slam, cover for two! Briggs whips Tank across, Hart Attack...

Briggs and Jensen win by pinfall with a Hart Attack on Tank Ledger.

Post-match we get handshakes and sportsmanship all around.

Lyra Valkyria gets a hype reel and we go to break.


Back from commercial, we get a new edition of Hard Hitting Home Truths with Nathan Frazer talking about all the worldwide talent in NXT before moving on to covering Noam Dar’s feud with Dragon Lee.

Kiana James vs. Lyra Valkyria (NXT Women’s Championship Tournament First Round Match)

Collar and elbow, Valkyria looking for a schoolboy, only a nearfall! Back to the lockup, James with a knee and a mat slam for two! Side headlock, off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, arm wringer, handspring evasion, dropkick caught, reversed, trading pins to no avail!

Whip to the corner, Lyra up and over into an arm drag, crucifix pin for a nearfall! Elbow up, catch a dropkick and Kiana catapults her into the bottom rope! Valkyria crashes to the floor and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Valkyria with a monkey flip, small package for two! James with a shoulder thrust in the corner, boot up, Lyra hits a missile dropkick! Striking, Valkyria with a dropkick, northern lights suplex into the bridge, only two!

Kiana gets her up, Tenryu Powerbomb... NOT ENOUGH! Back suplex, Lyra lands on her feet...

Lyra Valkyria wins by pinfall with a reverse roundhouse kick.

We go to the bar where Gallus are toasting a successful title defense when the D’Angelo Family roll up to talk some trash and make a challenge for the titles.

Joe Coffey sets a cut-off baseball bat down on the bar and says things are a little different now that he’s here and they need to walk on. Tony D’Angelo insists he’s gonna get his title match, Joe tells him to see himself out, the Family are surrounded and Stacks uses his discretion to get Tony to leave.

Trick Williams makes his entrance and we go to break.


Bron Breakker vs. Trick Williams

Collar and elbow, Breakker with a fireman’s carry takeover into a wristlock, taking Williams back down, upkick, break the lock, dropkick into the corner, stampede, right hands, and shoulder thrusts! Bron throws a few punches but Trick has his number and keeps the pressure up!

Whip blocked, standing switch, O’Connor roll denied, Williams sends him to the floor with a couple boots but referee Darryl Sharma stops him from diving for some reason. Trick out to the floor, beating Bron down on the announce desk!

Breakker with a back body drop, back inside, mounted punches and another back body drop, big German suplex! Another suplex for a nearfall, some push-ups for good measure and Bron grabs a grounded Cobra Twist. Some action off the ropes, both men down and out, Williams with a dropkick and a leaping lariat, fired up!

Big lifting Rock Bottom... NOT ENOUGH! Bron gets the military press powerslam and waits for Trick to get up only to get clocked with an enzuigiri! Williams feeling it, discus countered, the straps are down and Breakker puts him in it...

Bron Breakker wins by submission with the Steiner Recliner.

Post-match, Bron locks the hold right back on Trick until Carmelo Hayes makes the save!

Lighting Breakker up with strikes, he goes for a springboard and Bron cuts him out of mid-air with a spear to the injured ribs!

Breakker holds the title up and drops it across Hayes’ fallen body.
