CM Punk came to Friday Night SmackDown this week to complete his tour of WWE since his big return at Survivor Series late last month. Whatever could he have to say after his comments about being “home” on Monday Night Raw? Or perhaps another bidding war would ensue, not unlike what we got with Randy Orton last week?
As it turned out, WWE spoiled via a commercial that Punk won’t actually make his decision on where to sign until he returns to Raw next week.
So when Punk showed up and got a microphone, he said that he is partly going to leave it up to the fans. So he asked if they want him to sign with Raw — and they booed. He asked if they wanted him to sign with SmackDown — and they cheered loudly.
Then he asked if they wanted him to win the Royal Rumble, point at a sign, and main event WrestleMania.
That got the biggest cheer of all.
What followed was Punk making sure to mention damn near every name he could on the blue brand, alluding to working with Roman Reigns again — “don’t forget who the OG Paul Heyman Guy is” — while also teasing out something with Kevin Owens. He even used KO’s penchant for punching Grayson Waller & Austin Theory in the face backstage to crack a joke about how he did as much in AEW.
“It’s 2023, folks, you just can’t be doing stuff like that, it’s insane.”
"I don't know who would feel comfortable working with somebody who randomly just punches people in the face backstage..." @FightOwensFight, you can't be doing that. @CMPunk #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/Rhld9Zahde— WWE (@WWE) December 9, 2023
He also made sure to get a few shots in at Seth Rollins, who has been the most vocal about Punk returning to WWE, saying he’s not even The Man in his own household and go ahead and sing his song because that’s about all he’s got.
He ultimately revealed we will indeed find out where he will sign next Monday night on Raw in Cleveland. But it seems clear enough after just how hard he went after Rollins.
