Jey Uso falls short in world heavyweight championship match

Jey Uso spent the day making it known he was dedicating his world heavyweight championship match against Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw this week to Umaga, who died on this date 14 years ago. It added an extra layer of depth to an already compelling match, if only for Jey getting a shot to become a world champion for the first time in his career.

They put together one hell of a back-and-forth battle, a real war of attrition that featured a few really strong near falls on both sides. Every time it felt like Rollins might finish the job, Jey would kick out. And then he would get a key reversal at just the right time, go up for the Splash, and it would feel just as much like he was going to finish it.

But no.

In the end, Jey went for a spear and Rollins nailed a Pedigree off it. He followed up with the Stomp and pinned Jey clean in the middle of the ring to retain the world heavyweight title.

Sorry, Uce.

After, he was laid out by Drew McIntyre, adding insult to injury.

A tough night at the office indeed.
