Hulk Hogan would ‘love to get in the ring’ with Randy Orton for a main event match

Randy Orton is back in WWE and there’s a chance he will main event next month’s Royal Rumble 2024 event in a WWE Universal championship match against Roman Reigns.

Hulk Hogan knows what it’s like to carry WWE as its number one star in those kinds of matches. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the Hulkster praised Orton for being able to bridge old school and new school wrestling:

“Randy’s done something I haven’t seen done before. He’s a hybrid. A third-generation wrestler who learned from the old school...Watching Randy now, he fits perfectly. Not only does he adjust to the styles of the young guys, but watch his matches. He slows guys down and teaches them in the match. On the spot, he calls audibles and shows them how to do it. Open my hand, here’s the diamond. He’s transitioned from old school to this hybrid.”

Of course it wouldn’t be a Hulk Hogan interview without some kind of tease of his return to the ring in a PPV main event. In this case, he suggests Randy would know how to perfectly run into his punches:

“If I wasn’t all beat to hell, I’d love to get in the ring with Randy. We could still tear it down in the main event. Randy could call it in the ring, and he could adjust to my style to make sure it worked perfectly. He’s just so good. He can work with veterans and the newer guys, too. He knows how to pivot both ways in the ring.

He understands wrestling in a way very few do. That’s why he is making masterpieces in the ring.”

For what it’s worth, Hogan already scored a win over Orton back at SummerSlam 2006, but it wasn’t the main event of that card.
