Tatum Paxley’s new gimmick stands out in NXT’s crowded Women’s title scene

The Dec. 12 WWE NXT featured Cora Jade & Nikkita Lyons returning to the ring for their first match in months (in Lyons case, her first of the year). They’re in the thick of the Women’s championship picture, with the person who’s storyline responsible for Lyons injury — Blair Davenport — having won a title shot in Deadline’s Iron Survivor Challenge, and Jade having announced her comeback with an attack on champ Lyra Valkyria right after that match on Saturday night.

So it’s important to note that Jade & Davenport beat Valkyria & Lyons last night, with Cora likely earning herself a future title shot by pinning the champ.

But during their match last night Valkyria was distracted by Tatum Paxley, who seemed to be having a moment with one of the feathers from Lyra’s entrance attire.

Then afterward, Paxley threw Lyons out of the ring so she could console an obviously unsettled Valkyria.

And she’s still thinking about a certain Irish lass today...

Paxley’s been showing off this new character on NXT and Level Up for a while now. It also comes with a new finisher, a version of Suzu Suzuki’s Tequila Shot, which you can see at approximately the 2:44 mark of this clip:

But how does it fit into the crowded Women’s title scene (we didn’t even mention Women’s Breakout Tournament winner Lola Vice, who beat Paxley last week)? Is Tatum in love/lust with the champ, or is this a mind game to get the belt?

It’s an attention-grabbing gimmick and angle, but we’re not sure if it’s in a good way. Let us know what you make of it all in the comments. And on your way down there, check out our playlist of the rest of the highlights from the Dec. 12 NXT:
