WWE Raw results, live blog (Aug. 8, 2022): Mysterio vs. Balor, U.S. title match

Advertised for tonight: the Mysterio family and The Judgment Day are still going at it, and this week we’ll see Rey Mysterio take on Finn Balor in a singles match. Edge is advertised for this show, so don’t be surprised if he appears in all this. Elsewhere, Ciampa will challenge Bobby Lashley for the United States championship looking to win his first title on the main roster, and a whole lot more!

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the Raw live blog will kick off once the show starts on USA Network. It will be below this line here.

Lovers like us, lovers like us don’t cast coal into our bedroom eyes, tragic dancer. Lovers like us, lovers like us desire ends fear by causing its voyeurless glamour. Fear energy extractor on high watching liquids drip from her son, but me? I’m just liveblogging this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a recap of Bayley’s return at SummerSlam and last week’s fallout from that.

Commentary hypes up the card for tonight’s show.

Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY make their entrance and Bayley gets on the mic.

She criticizes the crowd for booing her and says they’re all excited to see our dumb smiling little faces. They don’t want to be here either but they know we need them, to see what they do next to try an dsalvage this uninspired division. She says we can’t enjoy sitting and watching Becky Lynch play dress-up every week or cheering for Bianca Belair, who would be nothing without her.

That’s why they had to make a statement last week for all of us, taking care of Becky’s dumb shoulder and lighting a fire under every woman in the locker room and bringing that fighting spirit out of Bianca. They’re bringing back what’s been missing, the hunger.

She has a question for all of us idiots— how is she the only one to realize what a lethal weapon IYO SKY is, or to see all the benefits of bringing Dakota Kai in. Dakota says they’re going to show everyone when they win the tag title tournament.

Enter Alexa Bliss, with tag partner Asuka right behind her, and Bianca Belair coming along after.

Alexa and Asuka make the point that assuming Kai and SKY make it out of the first round they’ll have to fight them next. Bayley challenges the three of them to a trios match at Clash at the Castle and Belair accepts! But she doesn’t feel like keeping control, she feels like losing it, and the Raw Women’s Champion ignites a powder keg of a brawl!

Referees try to break them up, they go out in the crowd... BLISS WITH A CROSSBODY OFF THE BARRICADE!

And so we go to break.

Angelo Dawkins vs. Seth Rollins

Side headlock, arm wringer into a kick, Rollins wants Blackout earlier but Dawkins has it scouted. Circling, collar and elbow, Angelo with a headlock, shot off, drop down, leapfrog, roll under, Dawkins with a huge dropkick! Action to the floor, Montez Ford keeps Seth distracted... POUNCE!

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Dawkins throwing forearms to try and get away, whip across but Rollins catches him with the reverse STO into the turnbuckles! Kicking Montez away, he goes under the ring for a chair, hot and ready to cost his pal the match but referee Eddie Orengo takes it away from him and ejects him!

Dawkins recovers, a lariat sends Seth to the floor and then he hits a tope con giro to punctuate it! Back inside, catche the lariat, pumphandle fallaway slam sets up the spinning Stinger Splash and an enzuigiri! Underhooks, Drill Bit... SO CLOSE! Seth comes back, Death Blow sets him up, Blackout reversed!

Duck a second try, Angelo hits the Sky High... ROLLINS KICKS OUT! Another Blackout attempt reversed, arm wringer counters Sky High, underhooks...

Seth Rollins wins by pinfall with the Pedigree.

Post-match, Seth punctuates by hitting Blackout on Dawkins!

We see the Mysterios hanging out backstage when Edge rolls up.

He says he knows things went sideways last week but if things get hot with Judgment Day, he’ll be there to help. Dominik gives him some side-eye and Edge admits spearing him was an accident and asks if they’re cool. Mysterio says cool and then shoves Edge and storms off over Rey’s attempts to smooth things over.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a video package for Tommaso Ciampa.

The Miz is interviewed backstage with Ciampa in tow.

He calls Logan Paul a hack and says that Tom has come out ahead from all this. Ciampa says if you want something to believe in, believe in him, and he’s dedicating this match to Harley Race, the first United States Champion and the man that trained him and made him who he is, and who passed away on this day three years ago.

With Harley looking down on him and the Miz at ringside, when Bobby Lashley looks him in the eyes he’ll feel his sacrifice and realize he’s already lost.

Ezekiel vs. Kevin Owens

Owens just bum-rushing the kid, action to the floor, putting him into the announce table... APRON POWERBOMB! Referee Chad Patton counting, he stops to go check on Zeke and he calls for EMTs!

They stretcher him out...

No finish is announced but that should either be a no-contest or a referee stoppage win for Kevin Owens depending on how you wanna play it.

Anyway, we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw, because Raw is three hours long. (Three hours long.)

We’re promised an update on Ezekiel’s condition later.

Judgment Day make their entrance and get on the mic.

Finn Balor begins, saying that Edge and Rey Mysterio think they should fear them but they can’t get on the same page and Dominik Mysterio’s already abandoned both of them. Judgment Day don’t fear anyone, because fear isn’t real, it’s a product of your imagination, but danger is real and tonight you’re gonna find out that he is danger.

Damian challenges Edge to a match in two weeks because Raw will be in Toronto and in front of his family and whatever friends he has left, Judgment Day will end Edge.

We see Rey Mysterio walking backstage when he runs into Edge.

Rey says he can’t get ahold of Dom and Edge says his offer still stands. Rey says that’ll make things worse with Dom and he just knows he’ll come to his senses before the match.

A match that will happen after the break.

Finn Balor vs. Rey Mysterio

Dominik has not, in fact, come to his senses, and Rey is here without a second.

Balor takes it to Mysterio, beating him up in the corners, Rey gets a tijeras in for a comeback, fired up, baseball slide, headed off the apron with a seated senton! Back inside, another seated senton off the top, back body drop, Rey reverses to a headscissors into the turnbuckles!

Whip reversed, duck a lariat, springboard crossbody, but Finn recovers and puts boots to Mysterio under the ropes! Block a dive, slingshot sunset flip, Balor counters the followup, inverted headlock elbow drop... NOPE! Finn goes for the Three Amigos but Rey counters the last one!

Both men down, Mysterio with elbows, whip reversed, front kick, lariat, Balor off the ropes, roll-through, dropkick, cover for two! Punches in the corner, Finn with an electric chair, Rey reverses to a wheelbarrow bulldog for two! Balor puts him face-first into the post and we go to break!

Back from commercial, in the turnbuckles and jockeying for position, they end up on the floor and Mysterio dives on him! Turning to face Priest, he runs interference and trips Rey up on the apron, leading Edge to make the save! Edge rams Damian into the steps and boots him over into the barricade for a brawl with the crowd!

Mysterio with a kick, setting up a Yoshi Tonic... SO CLOSE! He gets him set up for the 619 but Finn wakes up and lays him out! Shotgun dropkick, Rey goes up top, nobody home on the Coup de Grace! Mysterio with a headscissors that puts him in the second rope, but he turns to see Rhea Ripley dump a battered and bruised Dominik on the ramp!

Balor with an inverted 1916, up top...

Finn Balor wins by pinfall with the Coup de Grace.

Dana Brooke and Tamina are interviewed backstage.

Dana says she picked Tamina as her partner for the tournament because she’s been her toughest challenge as 24/7 Champion.

Bayley rolls up with her pals and says she’s not coming for her 24/7 belt but her team is going to win because she was one of the inaugural tag champs.

And so we go to break.

Dakota Kai & IYO SKY vs. Dana Brooke & Tamina (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament First Round Match)

Brooke and Kai to start, Dana with a waistlock, standing switch, reversed, shot off, big hip toss into a cartwheel kick but Dakota kicks out! Front chancery, tag to Tamina, straight suplex and Kai rolls to the floor where SKY immediately checks on her. Brooke tags in, diving crossbody takes both heels out and we go to break.

Back from commercial, heels in control, working Brooke over, heat segment in full effect. Tags made, Tamina clears house, battering SKY in the corner with elbows, up top, jockeying for position, Snuka with a headbutt to IYO and she perches but SKY gets the boots up on the splash!

Kai with a scorpion kick, the corner running boot, IYO perches herself...

Dakota Kai & IYO SKY win by pinfall with the diving moonsalt from SKY on Tamina.

We see Bobby Lashley shadowboxing backstage and go to break.

Back from commercial we get another recap of Kevin Owens completely destroying Ezekiel with an apron powerbomb.

Owens is interviewed backstage.

Asked for comment, he says if Kevin Patrick ever runs up on him like that again he’ll drop him harder than he did Ezekiel, and he knows exactly who he is— he’s Kevin Owens, and there’s been more eyes on this show now than there has been in some time, and this is still the Kevin Owens show.

In the background, Doudrop and Nikki ASH are dealing with a car that drove into a barricade in the loading dock.

We get another history of the United States Championship video package narrated by John “Bradshaw” Layfield.

Tommaso Ciampa makes his entrance and we go to break.

Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Tommaso Ciampa (WWE United States Championship)

Back from commercial, Ciampa is untying a turnbuckle pad when he turns around to blast Lashley with a boot and kick at him a bunch. Falling headbutt for two, reverse chinlock applied to try and grind the champion down. Bob shrugs him off, shoulder thrusts, corner lariats, press lift, Tom manages a desperate Russian legsweep to counter!

Trading punches, back and forth, spear... MIZ PUTS CIAMPA’S FOOT ON THE ROPES TO STOP THE COUNT! AJ Styles attacks the A-Lister and runs him off into the crowd! Ciampa with a small package, he tears the turnbuckle pad loose only to get caught by the reverse STO right after!

Bob lying in wait, Miz returns and slides in the ring, Styles right behind him, they provide distraction enough for Tom to put Lashley into the exposed turnbuckle twice, jumping knee... NOT ENOUGH! Hurt Lock countered, Ciampa gets the Gargano Escape in!

Lashley flagging but not failing, he rolls through, deadlift, Tom slips out and passes him to the floor! Willow’s Bell... STILL NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THE ALL MIGHTY DOWN! Bob with a chokeslam, the Hurt Lock is in! Tom struggles but can’t break loose...

Bobby Lashley wins by submission with the Hurt Lock to retain the WWE United States Championship.

We see Omos and Montel Vontavious Porter walking backstage and we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get footage of AJ Styles and Miz brawling in Gorilla until road agents separate them, and we’re informed that they’ll have a no disqualification match later tonight.

Andrea Guercio & Spencer Slade vs. Omos (Handicap Match)

Slade tries his damnedest but it’s a squash...

Omos wins by pinfall with a chokebomb on Guercio.

We’re promised an interview with Matt Riddle on next week’s show.

Seth Rollins is interviewed backstage.

He’s upset at being asked about Riddle, saying he told everyone last week he’s done with him. What, is he gonna have some earth-shattering announcement? No, it’s Riddle, he’s gonna say “bro” “dude” “cool” “Randy” and such. Seth says he’s the gatekeeper of this industry, anyone who’s any good has to go through him, and Matt is great at flushing his own potential down the toilet.

Don’t believe him? Ask Dana White. And if Riddle has something to say next week, well, so does Seth Rollins.

Alpha Academy make their entrance to send us to break.

Chad Gable vs. Dolph Ziggler

Feeling out, Ziggler getting rough with shoves, side press, cover for two. Sunset flip, another nearfall, bridging out of a gutwrench, Gable breaks his grip, backslide attempt, Chad gets the Chaos Theory! Dragon screw, stepover kneedrops, cover for two. Dolph comes back with the big DDT... NOPE!

Gable with the ankle lock, Ziggler screaming agony but he breaks loose with an upkick! Tenryu powerbomb for two, right back to the ankle lock! Dolph breaks loose...

Dolph Ziggler wins by pinfall with a superkick.

Nikki ASH and Doudrop cut a promo about how they’re gonna win their tag title tournament match next week.

Alexa Bliss and Asuka get a counter promo where they say that no, actually, they’re gonna win, but they get interrupted by Bayley and her pals.

Medics come running past with a vengeance and the camera follows Bayley.

AJ Styles walks by and the camera shifts to him as we go to break.

Back from commercial, commentary hypes up tonight’s episode of Raw Talk.

AJ Styles vs. the Miz (No Disqualification Match)

Trading punches at the bell, action quickly to the floor and Styles clears the announce table! Miz goes under the ring for plunder, AJ cuts him off and grabs a kendo stick! The A-Lister puts him into the barricade and throws him in the ring with a chair and the stick, walloping Styles with the kendo stick!

Setting the chair up, AJ blasts him in it and clotheslines him to the floor! Throwing him on the announce desk, climbing to join him, Styles Clash blocked and Miz throws him over the barricade and into the crowd as we go to break!

Back from commercial, Styles setting a table up on the floor, Miz wallops him with a kendo stick and takes him back inside to tee off on him some more! Choking him with the kendo stick, AJ gets away and hits the Pele Kick! Styles with the stick now, cracking it across the A-Lister’s back before using it to hit him in the gentleman’s area!

White Russian legsweep for two! Victory roll, another nearfall, back body drop puts Styles on the apron, forearm smash, lining Miz up, springboard into the Phenomenal Forearm... CIAMPA PULLS REFEREE CHAD PATTON OUT OF THE RING BEFORE HE CAN COUNT THREE!

AJ attacks Tom and throws him in the ring, he thinks about the Styles Clash but passes him to the apron thinking he’ll use the table he’s set up. Ciampa reverses, jockeying over a suplex... STYLES BLASTS HIM OFF THE APRON AND THROUGH THE TABLE WITH A FOREARM!

Miz with a schoolboy for two, big right hand from Styles, AJ back on the apron, springboard... THE A-LISTER THROWS A CHAIR IN HIS FACE! SKULL-CRUSHING FINALE CAN’T KEEP AJ STYLES DOWN! Miz goes face-first into a chair in the corner, AJ gets him up...

AJ Styles wins by pinfall with the Styles Clash.

AJ Styles celebrates in the ring and, in the background, we see what appears to be Dexter Lumis being escorted away from the front row by security.

That’s the show, folks.
