WWE SmackDown results, live blog (June 3, 2022): Hell in a Cell go home

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (June 3, 2022) with a live show emanating from Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, featuring the go home show for this Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) event.

Advertised for tonight: Madcap Moss returns to WWE television! We haven’t seen Moss since he was viciously attacked by Happy Corbin a few weeks ago. Is it time for a gimmick change?

Elsewhere on the card, WWE is teasing that Shinsuke Nakamura and Raw star Matt Riddle will show up seeking retribution on the Bloodline.

Come right back here at 8 pm ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on FOX. It will be below this line here. (Note: Going forward, there will be no ban on GIFs or images in the live blog threads. Feel free to post as you wish.)

Holy diver, where you at? There’s a woman on the hill in a wide-brimmed hat with a shotgun, .44, and a big blood hound in the back of a jacked up Ford, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show, folks.

The show opens with the intro video.

Thence to a recap of the tag team match that lead to tonight’s tag title match.

New Day make their entrance and get on the mic.

They cut a promo about their victory last week with Drew McIntyre on their side.

Drew McIntyre makes his entrance.

He gets on the mic and talks about Big E and says he knows what it’s like to be hurt and sit at home and think you’re forgotten but he wants the crowd to chant for E to remind him that he’s not forgotten and they oblige. He says he’s going to challenge for the title and win at Clash at the Castle.

He tells New Day they can always count on their boy Big D if they ever get in trouble and they remind him it’s a family show and he has to walk the line, there’s a lot of edging around here.

Hoo boy.

New Day give Drew a birthday present and it’s a... skirt? ...that says “Big D” on the front.

Enter the Brawling Buddies or whatever Sheamus and pals are called.

Sheamus gets on the mic but as he’s promoing Pete Dunne can’t wait and he rushes the ring only to be easily repelled by the babyfaces as we go to break.

Brawling Brutes (Pete “Butch” Dunne, Ridge Holland, & Sheamus) vs. Drew McIntyre & New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)

Back from commercial, the match is in progress and Xavier Woods is in trouble with the heels. Tag to Kingston, he’s running hot on Sheamus, sidesteps him into the post, double jump crossbody for two! Getting fired up, Butch cuts Kofi off and we go to break.

Matt Riddle and Shinsuke Nakamura are interviewed backstage and we get a recap of the Usos unifying the tag titles.

Riddle says he’s going to return the pain they inflicted on Randy Orton twofold and tonight isn’t about taking the titles, it’s about getting vengeance for Randy, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Adam Pearce is in his office talking to someone on the phone about the women’s six-pack challenge tonight.

Max Dupri rolls up and gets in his ear at some length.

We get a recap of the feud between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

Los Lotharios make their entrance do their terrible kiss cam gimmick and we go to break.

Shotzi comes in, Li knocks her out with a kick, Neidhart takes her out with the discus lariat and punches away at Raquel. Rodriguez blocks, the match breaks down...

Natalya wins by pinfall with a lateral press on Shotzi Blackheart.

Post-match, Ronda Rousey gets in the ring and has a staredown with Natalya.

We get a replay of a digital exclusive Baron Corbin promo where he says he’ll give Madcap Moss another ride out of the arena.

Madcap Moss returns out of the back of an ambulance and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a Lacey Evans video package and a promise that she’ll be here next week.

Madcap Moss makes his entrance and says Happy Corbin was right when he said he’d end Madcap Moss. That man is gone, and he calls “that human fedora rack” down to the ring before he goes and finds him.

Enter Happy Corbin.

He says he knows the real reason Moss is here, and it’s because he misses him. He misses the structure he brought to his life as his employer and he’s here to beg for his job back, and he’ll consider it. Corbin says he’d love to teach Madcap another lesson in humility, but not tonight.

He’s angry and not thinking straight and he’d hate to see Moss throw his entire career away because he’s emotional.

Adam Pearce rolls up and says a match between them tonight is a great idea and he makes it official over Happy’s complaints!

And so we go to break.

Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss

Back and forth, Moss out for blood but Corbin runs away, to the floor, Madcap gets a chair and rams him with it...

Happy Corbin wins by disqualification.

Post-match, he wails on Corbin with the chair some more! Eventually he escalates to the steel steps but referees and road agents swarm to stop him.

The Usos are interviewed backstage.

They talk up Moss trying to take Corbin’s head off and talk about how the Bloodline are gonna continue keeping all the gold.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Happy Corbin is limping backstage when he runs into Adam Pearce.

He wants Moss suspended but Adam says there aren’t going to be any suspensions because they’re having a no holds barred match at Hell in a Cell.

Ricochet cuts a promo about the effort he put into becoming Intercontinental Champion and he’s gonna make GUNTHER respect his abilities in the ring.

Imperium cut a promo about how nobody is worthier than GUNTHER and Ricochet’s time is up.

We get main event entrances and go to break.

Matt Riddle & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) (c) (WWE Unified Tag Team Championship)

Nakamura and Jey to start, laying serious knees in, tag to Riddle to try and keep him isolated. Whip into a double spinebuster cuts Matt off and turns the tide, tag to Jimmy, working him over for a bit until Shinsuke tags back in. Lighting Jey up with kicks in the corner, Good Vibrations, big knee in the turnbuckles!

Tag to Riddle, knee lift for two, slips out of a fireman’s carry, Jey into the ropes, back suplex, Matt lands on his feet! Boots up in the corner, up top but Jimmy trips him up and tags in! Jumping stomp to the back of his knee and referee Ryan Tran has to throw the X up when he checks on him! Shinsuke gets helped to the back and he promises to be back, leaving Riddle to go one-on-two as we go to break.

The Usos win by pinfall with a diving splash from Jey Uso on Matt Riddle to retain the WWE Unified Tag Team Championship.

We cut to Sami Zayn in the production truck jumping for joy because his ruse worked. He comes out to the stage to celebrate with the Usos but Riddle starts brawling and they have to be pulled apart.

Riddle says this isn’t the end.

That’s the show, folks.
