WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (May 23, 2022) from the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, featuring all the latest build for the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) coming up on June 5, 2022.
Advertised for tonight: Cody Rhodes takes on The Miz in a match they’re selling as a way for Rhodes to build momentum to his clash with Seth Rollins.
Elsewhere on the card, Bobby Lashley has a special challenge for Omos, despite the fact that he beat him in their steel cage match last week and has plainly won the feud. Also, Becky Lynch has something to say about her loss to Asuka last week, and more!
Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the Raw live blog will kick off once the show starts on USA Network. It will be below this line here.
WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 23
An empty shell my body is to live in beside, until the blue is next to me, I’m empty inside. I look above and see your face, the color of spring. Inside my soul some words of Earth I want you to sing, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with a recap of the Usos unifying the tag titles on SmackDown.
Matt Riddle makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He says he’s here with a heavy heart, and Randy Orton is his friend and his mentor, and to be honest the last couple years have been hard for Randy. Even though they’ve been having the time of their lives the last couple months, Orton’s back has been giving him a really hard time, and before their match on Friday, he could barely walk.
He knew Randy wouldn’t let him down because he knew how much the match meant to him, and how much it meant to us, but even so, they lost to the Usos. The Usos are a hell of a team, and his hat is off to them, but for them to win the way they did with help from that backstabbing piece of trash, Roman Reigns...
He assures us that he will get his vengeance on Roman, on the Usos, and on anyone who is part of the Bloodline, he swears on his career. Randy’s done more for him than he’s done for anyone else, and he loves and appreciates him and knows he’s watching, but to be honest he doesn’t know what the future holds for RK-BRO.
But he thinks the WWE Universe can help with one thing, and that’s get on their feet and make some noise and chant for RK-BRO.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, the Usos cut a promo from Gorilla about how they did what they said they were gonna do.
They make their entrance along with Sami Zayn, the babyfaces meet them and beat them down, and referees struggle to pull them apart as we go to break.
Matt Riddle & Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs. Sami Zayn & the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso)
Zayn and Dawkins to start, Angelo bowling him over with power and agility, big dropkick, tag to Ford. Quick tags, Riddle in and Sami overwhelms him with kicks to the ribs and tags Jey in. Matt powers up at the sight of an Uso and overwhelms him in Randy’s name!
Tag made, babyfaces in control and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Zayn is in control on Ford and grinding him down with a reverse chinlock. Montez floats over a back suplex and hits one of his own, Jey pulls Riddle off the apron and back suplexes him into the barricade to keep him out of the match!
Small package for two, follow it up with a lariat, Sami gets dumped out of the ring and Ford fights Uso off with an enzuigiri for some separation! Tag made, Riddle in hot, ripcord knee and charging forearms, exploder suplex, running senton follows!
The match breaks down into “everybody do something cool” territory, big tope con giro from Montez, hanging DDT from Riddle on Zayn! Matt going to that special place, he gets distracted by the Usos, who just walk away. Riddle’s fighting mad...
Matt Riddle & Street Profits win by pinfall with an RKO from Riddle on Sami Zayn.
We get a recap of Omos and Bobby Lashley business.
Bob makes his entrance and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Bobby Lashley gets on the mic.
He talks about seeing the anger and defeat in Omos’ eyes, and he’s not done fighting him, and he wants to do it again at Hell in a Cell. He has an All Mighty Challenge for Montel Vontavious Porter and his giant and introduces them.
Lashley says he wants to have a match to pick the stipulation for Hell in a Cell, MVP says nothing should make him think that he can beat Omos to do that, and Bob says he wants to challenge Montel to the match, since they still have unfinished business.
Porter says he’ll beat his ass and pick a stipulation that even the All Mighty cannot overcome.
The heels advance, Lashley sends MVP running and they stare angrily and jaw at each other.
Judgment Day make their entrance and we go to break.
Back from commercial we get a hype reel for this year’s WWE Crown Jewel, on Nov. 5 from Saudi Arabia.
A recap of Asuka becoming #1 contender last week follows.
Dana Brooke is backstage asking Adam Pearce for a match when Becky Lynch bumps into her dressed like a pirate.
She complains that Asuka cheated with the mist and says that if Pearce took his job seriously he’d strike it from the record.
Adam says given what both of them did the fair thing is to put both of them in a rematch tonight, and if Becky wins it’ll be a triple threat at Hell in a Cell.
Judgment Day get on the mic in the ring.
Damian Priest talks about Edge’s call for people to join their movement and says one of their key precepts is modesty, but no one has the courage needed to join. Rhea Ripley calls Liv Morgan out and tells her to save herself like she did, and join Judgment Day.
Edge says the truth is in front of most of our faces and it will set you free. Judgment Day is power, physical and mental, and an opportunity to recreate yourself and rewrite your career, sitting under his learning tree. He asks who will be their next member, smart enough and savvy enough.
Will it be Tommaso Ciampa? Corey Graves? Alexa Bliss? Drew McIntyre? He asks AJ to make the right choice and join them.
The babyface team make their entrance to send us to break.

Snake Eyes into the apron, Edge claps and we go to break.
Back from commercial Priest and Styles trading strikes, Pele kick sends Damian crashing to the floor, tag to the women and Morgan lights Ripley up with kicks! Knee lift in the corner, back elbow, missile dropkick, kip-up and she’s fired up! Inverted lungblower connects but Edge puts Rhea’s foot on the ropes!
AJ charges around the ring and smashes into Edge, Priest tries to make the save but Styles beats him down and gives chase into the ring, a Cactus Clothesline sending them both back out. Oblivion countered...
Judgment Day win by pinfall with a folding press from Rhea Ripley on Liv Morgan.
Post-match, Judgment Day beat AJ down and Edge spears him! Liv Morgan crawls to assist him but Rhea boots her and hits Riptide!
Miz is warming up backstage when an interview rolls up.
He says he’s sick and tired of Cody Rhodes, because he never trusts a man with a neck tattoo. And besides, Cody couldn’t beat him before he left WWE, and now his ego is out of control and he’s got more pyro than the fourth of July. You don’t see him bragging and boasting about Miz and Mrs. coming back in two weeks.
Tonight he’ll take Rhodes down a peg or two and then nobody will be able to ignore him.
Great Gate of Kiev plays and Jerry “the King” Lawler makes his entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Jerry “the King” Lawler welcomes us to The King’s Court and introduces his guest, Veer Mahaan.
Lawler says he’s heard Mahaan is a man of few words and gives him a chance to dispel that rumor and share the secret of his success. Veer says nothing and Jerry switches gears, asking why he’s targeted the Mysterios, but Mahaan only sneers. Lawler changes it up again to mock him, and finally Mahaan speaks, saying that Rey Mysterio is a legend but he’s too busy worrying about his son and that made him weak, so he took both of them out.
Veer offers to show him who he is instead of telling him, Jerry backs off, and the Mysterios make the save! Mahaan press slams Rey into the ropes and throws Dominik in after him! Peppered with dropkicks, he fires up and tries to recover but gets knocked down by a springboard roundhouse kick!
Alexa Bliss is interviewed in Gorilla.
She says it’s great to be back and she’s having fun and trying to stay out of trouble. Sonya Deville’s had a rough couple weeks and maybe she should look into therapy. As for tonight, she’s wrestling her old friend Nikki ASH and it’s even better now because she has a doll and Nikki dresses like a superhero.
She admits that sounded better in her head and makes her entrance to send us to break.
Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki ASH
Collar and elbow, ASH throws Bliss aside, arm drag, Alexa offers a handshake, Nikki takes it and uses it as a feint for a right hand! Bliss with a one-two punch, ASH crashes to the floor, Alexa pulls her back in but eats a double leg and Nikki lights her up with punches!
Cobra Clutch applied, Bliss fights to her feet, shift to a reverse chinlock, jawbreaker to escape! Running neckbreaker, up in the turnbuckles, Bliss knocks her down...
Alexa Bliss wins by pinfall with Twisted Bliss.
Seth Rollins is interviewed backstage.
He talks about how they used to sing his song every night in every city and now Cody gets a countdown clock every week and when does he get his countdown clock?
Cody Rhodes makes his entrance and we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get a video package for Asuka and she’s interviewed backstage.
She says Becky Lynch wasn’t ready for her because she was too busy crying and tonight she’ll beat Becky again and turn her into Big Time Baby.

Back from commercial, Rhodes with a dropkick, whip across, snap scoop powerslam, Cody Cutter, spinning toehold and into the figure four leglock! Action to the floor, Seth Rollins runs in and he and Miz put boots to Rhodes, throwing him into the steel steps...
Cody Rhodes wins by disqualification, presumably.
Rollins whips Cody with his own belt and leaves him lying.
Referee Aja Perera helps Rhodes to the back and we go to break.
Chad Gable vs. Ezekiel
Kevin Owens is on commentary for this one.
Collar and elbow, Ezekiel throws him into the corner, Gable fires back with a kneeling armbar, front chancery, Zeke backs him into the corner and decks him with a big chop. Another chop, whip across, tilt-a-whirl reversed into an armbar into a pass into the corner, off the ropes, electric chair, Chad slips out, drop down, knee lift.
Off the ropes, Otis trips Ezekiel up and Gable chop blocks him big! Dragon screw, bridging suplex, moonsault... THE BOOTS ARE UP! Zeke with a spinebuster, chops in the corner, Otis tries to run interference but referee Rod Zapata ejects him! Kevin Owens runs in and gets ejected too, Ezekiel capitalizes...
Ezekiel wins by pinfall with a victory roll pin.
Post-match, Kevin Owens gets on the mic and says he doesn’t care what Ezekiel calls himself, he just cares if he can beat the hell out of him, so he’s challenging him to a match at Hell in a Cell!
We see Cody limping out of the trainer’s room and running into an interview.
He says his knee got a little dinged up but he can put weight on it and that’s unfortunate for Seth Rollins. He’s got his heart and his guts and he’s undeniable and uncrowned, and he’s gonna take Seth 0-3 at Hell in a Cell.
Bobby Lashley makes his entrance and we go to break.
Bobby Lashley vs. Montel Vontavious Porter
Porter immediately bails to stretch his leg against the barricade! Returning to the ring, ducking right into the ropes, again outside for some calisthenics, this time Lashley gives chase, Montel ducks back inside and feigns a leg injury so Omos can run Bob over!
Drawing him back inside, Drive-By in the corner, jawing at him, slapping him, Lashley grabs him by the throat but MVP throws a few punches and gets away briefly. Reverse STO connects, Bob charges in, clothesline sends Porter to the floor and he follows after him! Fireman’s carry, he puts Montel into the post!
Omos runs interference again, Bob takes his time to put him over the barricade but referee Chad Patton has been counting...
Montel Vontavious Porter wins by count-out, earning the right to pick the stipulation for Hell in a Cell.
Post-match, Bob puts the Hurt Lock on MVP and swings him around a few times!
Bianca Belair makes her entrance to watch our main event and we go to break.
Asuka vs. Becky Lynch
Strikes out the gates, off the ropes, shoulder block takes Lynch down! Asuka gets a seated Fujiwara armbar, Becky falls to the floor to escape, sidesteps a kick, and shoves her into the ringpost to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Asuka is down and out on the floor and Lynch is happy to take the countout, but she recovers in time. Becky cuts her off, back to the floor, baseball slide lays her out! Asuka beats the count again and again Lynch throws her to the floor, this time diving on her and throwing her into the steel steps!
Back in, lateral press for two, double lariats and both women are down and out! Asuka slings her with a big German suplex, a sliding knee... SO CLOSE! Becks with a nearfall of her own, Asuka gets another, cross armbar in the middle of the ring but Lynch rolls to the ropes!
Up top, jockeying for position, Asuka with the superplex... NOPE! Hip attack dodged into the ropes, Lynch gets Dis-Arm-Her with the Empress in the ropes and breaks at the referee’s command! Jockeying for position, Asuka hits the hip attack in the ropes this time, thinking Asuka Lock on the floor, denied and an Alarm Clock puts Becky into Bianca Belair’s lap!
Lynch ducks the roundhouse kick and Asuka lays Bianca out, count at nine and she gets back in, Becks thinks fast...
Becky Lynch wins by pinfall with a sunset flip, earning a spot in the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match at Hell in a Cell.
Becky celebrates while we get a recap of the match.
That’s the show, folks.
