WWE NXT RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAR. 22
There once was a woman, a strange kind of woman, the kind that gets written down in history. Her name was Nancy, her face was nothing fancy, but me? I’m hot as hell and I’m liveblogging this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams arriving at the arena and talking up tonight’s qualifying matches for the NXT North American Championship match at Stand & Deliver.
Roderick Strong vs. Solo Sikoa (NXT North American Championship Qualifying Match)
Strong backs Sikoa into the ropes early, before picking his leg, riding him, and grabbing a standing armbar. Solo fights back, but Roddy’s grappling acumen is enough to keep him on top as he changes to a reverse chinlock. Sikoa gets to his feet and shrugs him off and follows with a big right!
Up and over, Strong off the ropes and Solo decks him with a shoulder block! Chest kicks and stomps follow, overwhelming Roddy with strikes! Strong gets away by pulling him into the ropes, mounted punches follow, stomping the hands and feet, seated rear chinlock follows to grind Sikoa down.
A boot gets a nearfall, stomp the head, another armbar but Solo fights back with strikes only to get caught by a capture backbreaker! Pulling him up, Roddy lays chops in, looking for End of Heartache but Sikoa blocks so he throws some knees to stagger him! Into the ropes, wicked forearms to the neck and Solo throws his own in return!
Boots up, roundhouse kick gets Strong a two count, more knees set up an Olympic Slam... NOPE! Santos Escobar comes to the ramp to watch the match, a palm strike exchange ensues, Solo blocks a boot, elbows the knee and drops Roddy with a headbutt! Corner body avalanche, Samoan Drop, cover... NOT ENOUGH!
Jockeying for position in the turnbuckles, Solo drops him with a headbutt...
Solo Sikoa wins by pinfall with a diving splash, earning a spot in the NXT North American Championship Ladder Match at Stand & Deliver.
We get footage from earlier of Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta arguing over a WWE.com article about their respective couples and who is more popular.
Tony D’Angelo makes his entrance to send us to break.
Dexter Lumis vs. Tony D’Angelo
D’Angelo with a big slam out of the feeling out, Lumis throws him into the corner, right hands, choking him in the corner and lighting him up with more punches. Whip across sets up a fallaway slam and a kip-up! Scoop and a slam, leg drop, cover for two! Action to the floor, Tony drops Dexter face-first into the apron and puts his hat on to taunt the guy as we go to break!
Back from commercial, D’Angelo in control with a reverse chinlock, Lumis fights out with elbows, back suplex, Dexter lands on his feet and fires off a few heavy right hands! Squaring him up, charging in, corner lariat into the bulldog! Kip-up, leg drop, only two!
Persia and Indi fight over Tony’s crowbar but he grabs it and smacks Lumis in the face! D’Angelo follows it up...
Tony D’Angelo wins by pinfall with a swinging fisherman buster.
Post-match, Tony gets on the mic and calls Tommaso Ciampa out, saying he set a trap last week and Tom walked right into it, so he’ll be the new don of NXT after Stand & Deliver.
Ciampa attacks from behind... FAIRYTALE ENDING! Tom gets on the mic and says that Stand & Deliver might be his final chapter, but he’s gonna write his own goddamn ending.
Dirty Dawgz are interviewed backstage and Robert Roode wants to talk about himself. He says he thinks people have forgotten that he was NXT Champion and dominated for a year. Dolph Ziggler tells Roode to teach Bron Breakker a lesson tonight.
Elektra Lopez makes her entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a hype reel for Grayson Waller.
Elekta Lopez vs. Fallon Henley
Henley in hard with forearms and a dropkick, off the ropes, Lopez catches her and Hot Shots her! Putting boots to her in the ropes, Fallon gets away, off the ropes, wheelbarrow... reversed into a facebuster! Crawling for the ropes, Elektra stays on her and shakes her head around, puts her into the ropes to choke her, and Briggs and Jensen get into a fight with Legado del Fantasma at ringside!
Fallon with more forearms, a big takedown for two, one-handed bulldog blocked, Lopez scoops her up...
Elektra Lopez wins by pinfall with a Liger Bomb.
Draco Anthony is in the locker room and his phone keeps ringing and he keeps ignoring it. Xyon Quinn rolls in and asks him what’s up, and Draco says Joe Gacy’s been blowing him up all week, and plays a video message from him before throwing his phone away. Quinn tells him he knows what he has to do, and Anthony says he’ll handle his business like a man.
Xyon tells him he’ll have his back if he needs it.
Robert Roode makes his entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Wendy Choo and Dakota Kai are interviewed.
Choo rambles and gets to talking about how they’re on the same level as Dakota and Raquel whereupon Kai cuts her off and says she’s had too much orange soda. Dakota says tonight’s their night and she’s gonna be the first woman to have her name on that cup twice.
Bron Breakker vs. Robert Roode
Trading shoulder blocks early, right hands, off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, snap scoop powerslam from Breakker! Roode rolls to the floor, Bron follows with punches, back inside and Robert gets a suplex! Roo posts Breakker shoulder-first, referee Danilo Anfibio ejects Dolph Ziggler and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Roode gets a boot up, blockbuster follows, only two! Robert flexes and kisses his bicep for an elbow drop but gets out of the cover early and does push-ups! Neckbreaker follows, cover for two, Breakker gets on the comeback, charging shoulder blocks, front kick sets up a belly-to-belly suplex!
The straps are down, spear... NOPE! A little back and forth, Roode hooks the leg, Glorious DDT... BRON KICKS OUT! Trading punches, both men running low, Robert goes up top and dives and gets caught...
Bron Breakker wins by pinfall with a powerslam.
Post-match, Dolph Ziggler appears on stage and superkicks Breakker during his exit!
Persia Pirotta berates Indi Hartwell for making excuses for Duke Hudson and says Duke gets things done in and out of the ring and he can beat anybody on the roster. Indi is intrigued and Dexter Lumis goes to his canvas to express himself. Hudson is confused and says nothing good happens when he draws.
Dexter reveals a portrait of GUNTHER, challenging Duke to beat him!
Grayson Waller makes his entrance and we go to break.
Back from commercial we get another Chase U vignette wherein Bodhi Heyward gives a presentation about how he’s gonna tear Von Wagner apart next week.
A-Kid vs. Grayson Waller (NXT North American Championship Qualifying Match)
Kid with a side headlock, Waller reverses with the headscissors and A-Kid cartwheels out! Knucklelock fakeout for a front kick, test of strength exchage, Kid with a Frankensteiner off the top! Grayson runs away, Sanga runs interference, A-Kid hits a dropkick to cut him off!
Waller drop toeholds him into the ropes, a little back and forth leads to a tope but Waller shrugs it off and goes for the rolling thunder Ace Crusher... COUNTERED INTO A BODYSCISSORS SLEEPER HOLD! Shifting to a guillotine choke, Grayson fights out, Russian legsweep off the ropes, out and back in...
Grayson Waller wins by pinfall with the rolling thunder Ace Crusher, qualifying for the NXT North American Championship Ladder Match at Stand & Deliver.
Post-match, Carmelo Hayes gets on the apron and says they need one more man for the ladder match, so he’s gonna pit the three losers of the three qualifiers in a loser’s bracket three-way next week! He then gets in A-Kid’s face and tells him he’ll never be the A Champion, and Trick Williams says he’s gonna take out Kid’s mama tonight, which leads him to get laid out with a kick!
Robert Stone is backstage arguing with Von Wagner. He eventually cedes the point when the lady he’s been chatting with the past few weeks rolls up to talk business.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, GYV do their standard entrance promo, saying they wouldn’t jump the Creeds from behind because... THEY JUMP THEM FROM THE FRONT!
Creed Brothers (Brutus & Julius Creed) vs. Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson)
Drake and Brutus to start, Creed with a suplex, a Karelin lift, tags made, standing stretch muffler from Julius but Gibson gets the ropes! James tags in, enzuigiri, Poetry in Motion takes Brutus off and Julius does his best but he gets cut off and worked over! Drake’s knee proves the weak point, tag back to Brutus, backbreaker rack slam!
Charging in...
Creed Brothers win by pinfall with a falling lariat from Brutus Creed on James Drake.
We get video from the people who attacked the Creeds, this time tearing Diamond Mine’s gym apart and spraypainting “don’t cry” on the walls, and we go to break.
Duke Hudson vs. GUNTHER
Collar and elbow, side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, GUNTHER laying heavy hands and tearing at Hudson’s face! Duke on the comeback, whip reversed, duck a lairat, big boot, elbows, front chancery, GUNTHER puts him on the apron, shoulder block, German suplex... NOPE!
GUNTHER hits the powerbomb...
GUNTHER wins by pinfall with a powerbomb.
Post-match, GUNTHER gets on the mic and complains about being overlooked when a guy like LA Knight—
Enter LA Knight.
He gets on the mic and starts his schtick but GUNTHER immediately cuts him off to tell him he’s everything that’s wrong with wrestling today— lots of talking, little skill. Knight tells him to listen very carefully, and if he ever interrupts him again he’ll knock his block head off his dad bod.
Stand & Deliver is right around the corner and he was gonna use his words to set up a match, but now he’s trying a different route— HE DECKS GUNTHER! Imperium overwhelm him briefly but MSK make the save! Babyfaces run the heels off and Knight hits a powerslam on GUNTHER!
We get a promo from Cameron Grimes where he says he wears his heart on his sleeve and last week he was frustrated and emotional because his father was his hero and his best friend. He lived and breathed this business, but shortly after he got signed, his father passed, and that’s why next week’s loser’s bracket qualifier is the biggest match of his career.
Dakota Kai and Wendy Choo make their entrance and we go to break.
Dakota Kai & Wendy Choo vs. Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals)
Choo and Shirai to start, collar and elbow to a side headlock, shot off, drop down, leapfrog, roll over, Wendy with a tijeras but Io pops up out of it! Tag to Ray, snapmare dropkick, cover for two! Choo blocks a suplex, gets her in the corner, tag to Kai.
Short double whip into the corner, Choo with a boot, Dakota with a facewash, cover... NOPE! Wendy uses a pillow to block a Tiger feint kick from Shirai, Io boots her down but gets caught by Kai! Whip reversed and reversed again, Dakota crashes to the floor, and Shirai and KLR both throw dives as we go to break!
Back from commercial, Choo running wild, cartwheel back elbow followed by an elbow drop, schoolboy... NOPE! Right hands, backing Ray into the corner, Kai tags in, Shirai runs in to cut off the double-team but gets thrown to the floor and Dakota hits a pump kick! Wendy with a superplex, Kai makes the cover... STILL NO!
Fireman’s carry, KLR slips out, back and forth, back elbow, tag to Io and she hits a flapjack! Tiger feint kick, tag back to Kay, off the second with a cannonball senton... CHOO BREAKS IT UP! KLR Bomb blocked, Kai hits the rolling lungblower, headed up top, Wendy tags in, diving double stomp!
Choo off the top with the Vader Bomb... SHIRAI BREAKS IT UP BY DROPKICKING KAI INTO HER OWN PARTNER! Io with a butterfly backbreaker on Kai, Choo hits a Side Effect, Ray with a headbutt and the KLR Bomb! Tag to Shirai, off the top...
Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray win by pinfall with the diving moonsault from Shirai on Wendy Choo, winning the 2022 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Post-match, Toxic Attraction enter the ring and Mandy Rose congratulates the two of them for winning the tournament.
KLR explains that they’re not actually interested in winning the tag titles, they want to cut the head off the snake so they’re making the women’s title match at Stand & Deliver a four-way!
Cora Jade joins the fray and the babyfaces run Toxic Attraction off!
