Carmelo Hayes (North American) vs. Roderick Strong (Cruiserweight) (NXT North American / Cruiserweight Championship Unification Match)
Collar and elbow, struggling around the ring, Hayes backs Strong into the ropes and breaks clean. Armbar, Roddy runs away! Collar and elbow, Carmelo with a headlock takeover, reversed to a headscissors, same sequence in reverse, trading arm drags and pin attempts, Hayes with a low enzuigiri!
Carmelo with a headlock, shot off, slide low but he runs right into a chop from Strong! Chasing him to the floor, more chops, back inside, mounted punches, back elbow, off the ropes, Hayes posts him and gets him hung up in the ropes for a slingshot leg drop!
Back and forth, Roddy to the apron, Carmelo plants him with a slingshot DDT on the apron! Slingshot back inside but Strong catches him with a big knee, one-arm pin for a nearfall and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Hayes has a top wristlock locked on in the middle of the ring! Strong gets out, backbreaker connects, another one, Carmelo gets a slick tilt-a-whirl facebuster for two and follows it up with a Saka Otoshi! Roddy goes for a catapult, blocked, Hayes with a Boston Crab!
Strong reverses and gets the full Strong Hold! Shifting to a high-angle torture crab, Carmelo rolls over and gets an upkick to escape, but Roddy hits another backbreaker for two! Elbows, Olympic Slam... NOPE! Sunset flip out of the corner, roll through, Final Cut... RODDY KICKS OUT!
Hayes goes up top, Strong cuts him off with an enzuigiri... AVALANCHE CRASH LANDING BUT RODERICK STRONG WILL NOT STAY DOWN! Carmelo pulls himself up and perches up top...
Carmelo Hayes wins by pinfall with a diving axe kick, retaining the NXT North American Championship and winning the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
We see Tommaso Ciampa backstage as AJ Styles rolls up.
Styles wishes him luck and Ciampa says he looks like he’s dressed for a fight, AJ says he might be here for one, and we go to break.
Back from commercial, we’re informed that this year’s Dusty Classic starts in two weeks for the men’s tournament and in February for the women’s.
AJ Styles gets in the ring and on the mic.
He thanks the crowd for their support and says he’d be lying if he didn’t have regrets, like for example skipping NXT and going straight to the main roster. There’s something special about NXT, but of course he’s here for Grayson Waller.
Enter Grayson Waller.
He says you can say you need to pay your dues and whatnot but he’s here and AJ lost last night and he’ll tell you, it’s because he’s beat up. Styles admits he’s not 100% and offers Waller a chance to take advantage of that, since he’s never had a match in NXT and he’s wearing his gear, all they need is a referee.
Grayson says to not get ahead of himself and AJ tells him to grow a sack and get in there and do something. Waller says he needs the main event spotlight, so he wants to do it next week, in the main event, to get the biggest win of his career. Styles says it’ll be the biggest embarrassment of his career.
Waller throws a punch, AJ ducks and hits him back but Grayson cuts him off and puts boots to him! Right hand gets a Pele kick, back body drop to the apron, forearm cuts him off but Waller runs away before he can hit the Phenomenal Forearm!
Pete Dunne cuts a promo about stomping Tony D’Angelo’s mouth shut for good next week, and go ahead and bring the crowbar, because you’re gonna need it.
(Dvorak intensifies.)
We go to break.
Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter are working out when Amari Miller rolls up.
They say they’re getting ready to challenge for the tag titles when Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta roll up to say they’re going for them first. Pirotta agrees to a match, and when Indi freaks out, she says they could find a partner, mooting Tiffany Stratton first, but she gets up and calls her dad about them.
Wendy Chu (Karen Q in pajamas) is behind her, and they ask who she is skeptically.
Imperium (Fabian Aichner, Marcel Barthel, & WALTER) vs. Matt Riddle & MSK (Nash Carter & Wes Lee)
Barthel and Carter to start, Marcel wrestling circles around him on the mat. Nash powers up but a tag to Aichner cuts him off! Carter gets away, tag made, Lee in with kicks but Fabian takes his head off with a lariat! Riddle in, he ends up isolated briefly, tags made, MSK clears the ring but WALTER wrecks ‘em!
Catching Wes on a dive, he posts him and chops him hard to set him up for stereo dropkicks as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Carter is isolated as Barthel works him over and tags WALTER in to cut the momentum! Putting boots to Nash, he tags Riddle in and Matt goes to town with his old rival WALTER! MSK dives on Imperium and everybody’s down and out at ringside! Back inside, bridging German suplex gets Riddle a tight nearfall!
WALTER with a powerbomb into a lateral press... STILL NO! Tag to Aichner, vertical drop brainbuster... CARTER BREAKS IT UP! Dives, Riddle with strikes, another German to WALTER, tag to Nash! Tag to Lee, blockbuster / spinebuster combo, Riddle legal, off the top with the twisting moonsault...
Matt Riddle & MSK win by pinfall with an RKO from Riddle on Marcel Barthel.
Backstage, Joe Gacy and Harland are interviewed.
Joe says Harland has been considering the ramifications of how people treat him and he’s making great strides and showing more restraint than ever before, and if they were in the Dusty Classic, it’d bring Harland peace and happiness. As they’re a brand new tag team, they don’t want to be entered automatically into the field, and they’d be happy to prove to the tournament committee that they’re a viable tag team.
A helicopter flies over the arena and we go in the cockpit with Mandy Rose.
She says this is how the champ arrives in style, lands, and gets out to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Elektra Lopez is interviewed backstage.
She says everyone can keep on wondering what’s going on between her and Xyon Quinn, and she joined Legado del Fantasma because Santos Escobar knows she’s a difference maker. Family comes first, but she’s attracted to success and next week you’ll get your answer when Santos and Xyon wrestle next week, the winner leaving with her.
Cora Jade vs. Mandy Rose (c) vs. Raquel Gonzalez (NXT Women’s Championship)
Gonzalez takes Jade out with a boot and goes after Rose! Snake Eyes on Cora after some striking, Mandy cuts her off with a knee, right hands in the corner, whip across, up and over into a tijeras! Raquel shoves Jade into the corner, whip across, up and over tijeras blocked, Cora slips out, pin for two!
Low-bridge sends Gonzalez to the floor, Jade off the ropes, Rose trips her up and pulls her ot hte floor, ramming her into the apron! Raquel comes in to take Mandy out, Cora dives on her and then Rose kicks her into the steel steps for her trouble and stands tall!
Back inside, Jade gets a pin for two, Gonzalez gets them both up on her shoulders, double Samoan Drop sends us to break!
Back from commercial, Rose counters a powerbomb attempt with a chop block, Jade with a sunset flip for two! Kick to the arm, drawing her up, Mandy takes her head off with a lariat! Raquel assists Cora in a big headscissors takeover on Rose, whip blocked, big knee from Jade in the ropes!
Cravate, Gonzalez counters with a backbreaker! Fireman’s carry... PRESS DROP TO THE FLOOR! Mandy tries to run away, Raquel goes after her and throws her back inside as the champion begs off and backs into the safety of the ropes! Leg pick, lariat, clubbing blow to the chest but Rose rolls to the floor!
Gonzalez throws her back inside and follows but Mandy hits a Codebreaker... NOPE! Desultory striking while I complain about people calling Codebreakers lungblowers despite the lack of impact to the lungs on Twitter, one armed powerbomb... JADE BREAKS IT UP WITH A DIVING SENTON!
Raquel sets Cora up top and climbs to join her, Jade slips under and pushes her to the floor! Cora goes for a pin, Mandy reverses...
Mandy Rose wins by pinfall with a victory roll on Cora Jade, retaining the NXT Women’s Championship.
We get a Boa vignette where he talks about not being able to control his powers and asks the paint to let him face Solo Sikoa by himself.
Matt Riddle and MSK are celebrating in the parking lot. Riddle tells them to fulfill their destinies and win the tag titles, they hug and he scoots off.
The Creed Brothers roll up to say the tag division’s gotten more competitive and the only way the MSK are getting a title shot is to win the Dusty, and that won’t happen because they’re in it.
Andre Chase makes his entrance, mic in pocket.
He says last week was a teachable moment. He was in deep trouble and one of his students risked life and limb to protect him, and that’s the kind of bond between the student body and the faculty at Chase University. He’s grateful that Harland didn’t throw the kid off the building, because that would be terrible for enrollment.
But he wants to recognize this student for his heroic behavior, a man that he’s so proud of and who he’s watched grow up before his eyes, and he awards him the first full scholarship and invites him to the ring. But before he can—
Von Wagner makes his entrance.
He says he hears everyone complaining until he gets in the ring, and then you want to see who he’s gonna tune out next. He only needs to be liked by the people that matter, and none of the fans do. He’s everything that we’re not and he ends up dropping Chase with a lariat and an Olympic Slam!
He gets in scholarship guy’s face and pulls him out of the crowd before grabbing another fan by the lapel and getting swarmed by referees and security as he slams the dude on the floor!
We see Bron Breakker and Tommaso Ciampa walking backstage to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of Von Wagner’s rampage from just now.
We see Wagner being escorted out of the building, and his path takes him past the Diamond Mine tending to Roderick Strong’s wounds in the trainer’s office.
Cameron Grimes gets a 2021 year-in-review video package.
Commentary hypes up next week’s card, including a... sigh... crowbar on a pole match between Pete Dunne and Tony D’Angelo.
Bron Breakker vs. Tommaso Ciampa (c) (NXT Championship)
Collar and elbow, Ciampa backs him into the corner, chop on the break, exploding out of the corner with lariats, leapfrog, drop down, Breakker with a roll-through into a delayed vertical suplex! Tom bails to the floor for a breather, tries and fails to pick Bron’s leg and eats another delayed vertical!
Mounted punches in the corner, dropkick to the mouth, Breakker off the ropes, Ciampa ducks him and knocks him to the floor with a knee and follows it up with a corkscrew plancha! Back inside, reverse chinlock applied, Bron stands up and counters with a senton!
Whip across, corner body avalanche, Breakker hits a wicked spinning spinebuster! Standing moonsault... NOPE! Back and forth, Bron with a spear for a tight two! Both men unsteady on their feet, slugging it out punch for punch, jockeying for position, Ciampa hits Willow’s Bell... NOT ENOUGH!
Action to the floor, Breakker puts Ciampa through the announce table with a spinebuster! Back inside, knee pad down, knees to Bron’s face, three in a row, underhooks, Fairytale Ending... BRON KICKS OUT! Breakker hits the diving bulldog, the straps are down!
STEINER RECLINER APPLIED! IT’S OVER!
Bron Breaker wins by submission with a Steiner Recliner, becoming the new NXT Champion.
Bron celebrates with the title.
That’s the show, folks.
