This storyline WWE is currently telling with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss is great in part because the former is the living embodiment of the frustrations of fans who are tired of the latter playing with a literal doll on a show about fighting people.
To that end, she beat Bliss at Extreme Rules to retain the Raw women’s championship and immediately ripped Lilly, said doll, to pieces. In her post-match interview, she was asked why she felt the need to do this, and made the best point imaginable:
“See, that’s the problem, Sarah, you’re encouraging Lexi. You’re asking about Lilly. How about ‘I wonder how Alexa feels that she didn’t win the Raw women’s championship?’ That’s the problem. No, I don’t want to talk about Lilly. Let’s talk about Alexa. The Alexa that I faced tonight was the old Alexa. She was the Alexa that I saw when she held the Raw women’s championship. She’s what, a three-time, four-time Raw women’s champion?
“No, tonight she fought me, she faced me, she came at me. Yes, I’m The Queen, I still won. But that’s the Lexi we all want to see. I don’t want to hear about Lilly. Ripping up Lilly was a wake up call, a wake up call to remind her that she’s still a champion at heart. That’s who she is.”
Bliss was indeed more upset over her doll being torn up than she was losing a title match. There’s something wrong there!
Leave it to Flair to fix all that.
