WWE Extreme Rules 2021 predictions

WWE

WWE Extreme Rules is all set to take place tonight (Sun., Sept. 26, 2021) from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. It begins at 7:00 pm ET with the Kickoff show leading right on into the main course at 8 pm ET on Peacock in the U.S., WWE Network everywhere else, or your local cable pay-per-view provider.

Luckily for you Cagesiders, our staff of learned wrestling blowhards is here to help figure out just how the event is going to play out with predictions for each match on the card.

Let’s get to it.

WWE EXTREME RULES PREDICTIONS

Roman Reigns vs. The Demon

Geno Mrosko: I wish I could come up with some creative way to claim Balor has a real chance here but the mental gymnastics required to reach such a conclusion would be far too exhausting. Pick: Roman Reigns

Sean Rueter: Wait. I know this one. Pick: Roman Reigns

Kyle Decker: The Extreme Rules stipulation can allow them to protect Bálor a little bit, but it also means there must be a winner. And there’s no way that it’s Finn Bálor. Pick: Roman Reigns

Claire Elizabeth: Roman Reigns is gonna kick the Demon in his dick and take his lunch money, easy peasy. Pick: Roman Reigns

Cain A. Knight: The more important match for Roman is the one next month against The Beast in Saudi Arabia, so he’s not getting beat in this warm-up match against The Demon. Pick: Roman Reigns

Stella Cheeks: It’s cute that they are trying to make The Demon intimidating again, but the ship on intimidating “otherwordly” figures in WWE has sailed. Pick: Roman Reigns

Marcus Benjamin: Remember when The Demon was a thing? Of course you do. You know who doesn’t? WWE: Roman Reigns

Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair

Geno Mrosko: I actually think they go right back to Belair here, and that’s because they’re going to move Lynch and Seth Rollins over to Monday Night Raw in the draft. Pick: Bianca Belair

Sean Rueter: While I (probably foolishly) think Belair will eventually get her win, and probably even her title, back... I don’t think it happens just yet. Pick: Becky Lynch

Kyle Decker: They’ve done a very good job setting this up after understandable doubts after SummerSlam. Bianca Belair has held her own against The Man. It’d be surprising if they put the belt on Becky just to give it back to Belair immediately. This not being any Extreme Rules stipulation match, they could do a DQ or count out to prevent a title change. Given they want to protect Bianca and probably extend this feud, I think Belair wins this match in one of those ways that doesn’t give her the gold. Plus it’s just like WWE to have a DQ finish on a PPV named Extreme Rules. Pick: Bianca Belair

Claire Elizabeth: Well Becky’s certainly not going to lose the title here, not after having won it in less than a minute. She’ll be cocky early, Belair will overcome and push her to her limit, and then Lynch will have to cut some kind of corner to win and retain the title and cement her heel turn. Pick: Becky Lynch

Cain A. Knight: Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair at Survivor Series is probably too tempting for Vince McMahon to resist. But if he does pursue a different direction, it won’t be Becky’s fault, because she’s not dropping this title in the near future. Pick: Becky Lynch

Stella Cheeks: I think it’s time for a little hot potato action with the SmackDown belt. There was absolutely no reason for Becky to win upon her return in that way. So give the belt back to Bianca and let’s have our selves a feud up through Mania! We are overdue for a lengthy program in the women’s division. Pick: Bianca Belair

Marcus Benjamin: If I had my way, Bianca Belair would win this match and every other match. But, as my mother used to tell me way back when, can’t get what you want all of the time, little boy. Color me shocked they pulled off the Becky Lynch heel turn to this degree. She and Bianca are both really dope in their roles and told a good story leading up to the big match. Bianca will get another go, but tonight belongs to The Man: Becky Lynch

Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss

Geno Mrosko: I’m hesitant to bet against Flair on PPV but Vince McMahon really seems to enjoy this Bliss/Lilly thing. I guess it’s good for merchandise? I don’t know. This one feels like more of a toss up than you’d expect. Screw it. Pick: Alexa Bliss

Sean Rueter: Can’t win the title a 13th time if your 12th reign doesn’t end. Also, I think what few rules we have for the Firefly Fun House Alexa’s Playground-verse dictate that The Queen must pay for destroying a doll. Pick: Alexa Bliss

Kyle Decker: Two of some of the strongest booked women going against each other makes for a tough call. When in doubt, fall back on the rule “Never bet against Charlotte Flair.” Pick: Charlotte Flair

Claire Elizabeth: We’re never gonna find out who Charlotte Flair is without the title because she’s never gonna be without it for long enough to start introspecting. Pick: Charlotte Flair

Cain A. Knight: I don’t expect Flair to be afraid of dolls like Shayna Baszler was, so I guess she’ll retain the gold. But the numbers say Charlotte’s matches are often the most difficult ones to predict, so who the hell knows? Pick: Charlotte Flair

Stella Cheeks: Do I look stupid to you? Charlotte Flair is not losing to a weirdo who plays with dolls. Pick: Charlotte Flair

Marcus Benjamin: I’m enjoying this story—and maybe I’m one of the few—even if it’s a little too meta at times. Who is Charlotte Flair when she’s not champion? Is Alexa Bliss hiding behind the trickery because of her insecurities? Obviously the match won’t reveal any of that but this is the type of psychological stuff I’m into. And as a result, I’m going with the challenger. Pick: Alexa Bliss

Damian Priest vs. Sheamus vs. Jeff Hardy

Geno Mrosko: I, like Decker, am filling this in after Cain put his in and I, like Decker, will simply refer you to his prediction. Pick: Damian Priest

Sean Rueter: Gonna keep hoping WWE gives the Charismatic Enigma one last run until he leaves the company. I’ll probably be disappointed, but that’s never stopped me before. Pick: Jeff Hardy

Kyle Decker: See Cain’s prediction. Pick: Damian Priest

Claire Elizabeth: What fresh hell am I sandwiched between? Boys are gross. Anyway, Priest is one of the few consistently enjoyable things about Raw and taking the title off of him would be a shame. Pick: Damian Priest

Cain A. Knight: Jeff Hardy and Sheamus douse each other in Hardy’s urine and then Priest sneaks in for the win. Pick: Damian Priest

Stella Cheeks: Just give it to Jeff Hardy. At least his face paint is cool. Pick: Jeff Hardy

Marcus Benjamin: Jeff Hardy makes this at least semi-interesting. And because of that, let’s give him the title. Cool? Cool. Pick: Jeff Hardy

The Usos vs. The Street Profits

Geno Mrosko: I don’t really see them doing a title change for something they hardly built to while also teasing out a program with Otis & Gable. Pick: The Usos

Sean Rueter: Look, all I care about is how do we get to New Day vs. Bloodline match that’s at least twice as long as the one we got last Monday. Whether or not Jimmy & Jey have titles doesn’t really impact that. Pick: Street Profits

Kyle Decker: This could go either way, but I think they roll with the Bloodline with the gold for a bit longer. Pick: The Usos

Claire Elizabeth: Given that the last notable plot point in this feud was Montez Ford calling the Usos “Bloodline bitches” and getting the hell beat out of him I kinda think there’s a title change coming. Pick: Street Profits

Cain A. Knight: Might as well switch the titles here and give the audience something to cheer. The Usos can always win them back on SmackDown or Saudi Arabia. Pick: Street Profits

Stella Cheeks: The Bloodline is more interesting when there is tension between Roman and the Usos. If the Usos lose here then Roman has to worry about The Beast and his family’s reputation. Plus, The Street Profits are up! I don’t bet against numbers. Pick: Street Profits

Marcus Benjamin: This is my match of the night. There’s more story in The Uso’s chasing the titles to please their cousin than holding the titles as his gold-covered soldiers. Plus, if Roman heads to Raw, look for his family to follow. Pick: Street Profits.

Liv Morgan vs. Carmella

Geno Mrosko: They’ve teased a legitimate push for Morgan too many times to count at this point, but I’m a sucker, so I’ll fall for it again. Pick: Liv Morgan

Sean Rueter: Are they really going to push Liv past the mid-card? I mean, it’s not like Mella’s going anywhere either, but they may want to get her off the schneid before she & Zelina get fed to a babyface tag team. So I figure we’ll do the “wait and see” thing with Morgan for a while longer. Pick: Carmella

Kyle Decker: With no real stakes to this match, this is a good time to build up Liv Morgan like we keep hearing they want to. Pick: Liv Morgan

Claire Elizabeth: Liv is obviously very talented and they keep wavering around making her a focal point of the division, and maybe now that finally happens. Pick: Liv Morgan

Cain A. Knight: Carmella has pretty much lost all of her most important matches since she returned with this new gimmick at the end of 2020, so I’ll stick with that trend. Pick: Liv Morgan

Stella Cheeks: They fired both of her tag partners. It’s time to show us why they kept Liv Morgan. She certainly has the wrestling chops, they just have to give her a push in the right direction. Pick: Liv Morgan

Marcus Benjamin: Let’s go with Liv Morgan. Carmella is on a losing streak that the Detroit Lions of a few years ago would envy. Pick: Liv Morgan

That’s how we see the card playing out.
