It sounds like there are a lot of NXT names ‘on the chopping block’

WWE President Nick Khan recently discussed the rebranding of NXT, which is set to kick off for the Sept. 14 episode. There is already a new colorful logo. In addition to that, the rumor mill says WWE is prioritizing physical looks over wrestling experience, and reports indicate there will be more significant involvement from Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez spoke about NXT’s rebranding. That’s where Meltzer revealed there is a “chopping block” of NXT names:

Alvarez: “The veterans are there to help the new guys learn.”

Meltzer: “And then probably getting phased out...I’ve heard names on the chopping block. You don’t know until it happens, but I’ve definitely heard names. A lot of the guys who’ve been there for a long time...those are the names that have been talked about.”

One of the big stories this year has been WWE’s decision to make significant roster cuts due to budget concerns, despite the fact that WWE is more profitable than its ever been. NXT was affected by the most recent round of cuts in August, with notable stars like Bronson Reed, Bobby Fish, Mercedes Martinez, and others being fired by Vince McMahon.

There may be even more cuts coming as a result of the rebranding of NXT, if what Meltzer heard about this chopping block is accurate.
