John Cena returned to WWE at MSG to work a dark match after SmackDown

Although his storyline with Roman Reigns wrapped up at SummerSlam and it seemed his time with WWE would be ending there (at least for now), John Cena was still being advertised for the special episode of Friday Night SmackDown this week at Madison Square Garden. But would he really come back for one show, that he ultimately wouldn’t even appear on television for?

Yep!

Cena showed up after SmackDown went off the air to work a dark match alongside Rey & Dominik Mysterio against Roman Reigns & The Usos, which is the same dark match they were working in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam. Cena, naturally, picked up the win for his team.

In other MSG dark match news, Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin took place, with the former winning via disqualification. That was also after the show. Before the show went on the air, Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defeated Rhea Ripley via submission.

In all, The Garden was treated to a show loaded with stars.
