This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown represented WWE’s big return to Madison Square Garden in New York City, yes, but it was also a show being held just one day before Sept. 11. It’s been 20 years since America was attacked in 2001 and the company honored the country with not just a tribute video to open the show but a special guest appearance from Lilian Garcia, who sang The Star-Spangled Banner.
Garcia, notably, sang the National Anthem at the start of the first SmackDown following Sept. 11 back in 2001, the show WWE commemorated with the recently released documentary “Never Forget: WWE Returns After 9/11.”
