WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR SEPT. 10
All hail the knight of the verbal incontinence, tilting against windmills into the night. Inanimate objects, they do not pose a real threat. Your objection will surely be noted as a historic account, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens up with a video package covering the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Roman Reigns makes his entrance, flanked by Paul Heyman and the Usos.
The Big Dog gets on the mic and asks Heyman if WWE runs New York City, and if he runs WWE, and if those two positives mean that he runs New York City, and thus Madison Square Garden, before demanding that MSG acknowledge him.
Enter Brock Lesnar.
He gets right in the ring, the Usos get between him and Reigns, and Heyman asks him one simple question— of all the titles they could go after together, why the Universal Championship? Brock asks Paul a question in return, why didn’t he tell Roman that he was going to be at SummerSlam? Reigns takes his title from Heyman and leaves him in the ring with a laughing Brock.
Paul gives Lesnar his big intro and Brock takes the mic and says that was great, just like old times! Before Roman Reigns fires him, he wants Heyman to accept his challenge to wrestle Reigns for the Universal Championship, and gives him five seconds. Paul isn’t fast enough, fireman’s carry... ROMAN MAKES THE SAVE WITH A SUPERMAN PUNCH!
Lesnar gets Reigns up, the Usos make the save and lay him out with superkicks! Brock fires up, German suplexes to the Usos!
Commentary hypes up a ten-man tag and we go to break.
Back from commercial, the Usos, and Roman Reigns duck an interview but Paul Heyman answers.
He claims he had nothing to do with Brock Lesnar being at SummerSlam and criticizes Kayla Braxton for an ambush interview before saying Roman will answer Brock’s challenge when he deems it appropriate.
Sami Zayn cuts a promo before his match and claims he has a corner man who knows what it means to win in Madison Square garden, Trae Young.
Apollo Crews, Dirty Dawgz (Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode), Otis Dozovic, & Sami Zayn vs. Big E, Rick Boogs, Shinsuke Nakamura, & the Mysterios (Dominik & Rey Mysterio)
Ziggler and Nakamura to start, the heels take charge early and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Zayn legal and Nakamura floats over a suplex! A boot lays him out, tag to Rey Mysterio! Off the top with the seated senton, clear the apron, duck a lariat, solebutt, Yoshi Tonic... CREWS BREAKS IT UP! Enzuigiri to Dominik as the match breaks down into “everybody do something cool” territory! Zayn trips Mysterio up, Trae Young chokes the legend over the ropes and referee Dan Engler ejects him from ringside!
Rey with a tijeras, Zayn on the second, father and son off the ropes, stereo 619, tag to E...
Big E, Rick Boogs, Shinsuke Nakamura, & the Mysterios win by pinfall with the Big Ending from E on Sami Zayn.
Post-match, Big is interviewed and says they have one heck of a team, much like [local sports reference].
As to what’s next for him, he holds up the Money in the Bank briefcase and says this may not be the last time you see him out here tonight. And he might show up on Raw any time, too, because if you have what he needs, you’re gonna feel his power.
Bianca Belair makes her entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville are in the ring to preside over our contract signing.
Bianca Belair picks up the contract and talks about how far she’s come and she would have told you the one thing about Becky Lynch is that she won’t run from a fight, but my how things have changed. Bianca says she knows that if they really went toe-to-toe things would be different, and at Extreme Rules Becky can win back some of her respect while she wins back her title.
She signs the contract and sets it down.
Enter Becky Lynch.
She asks Belair if she wants to know how she knew she had her number at SummerSlam, and it’s that she was starstruck and excited to share the ring with her, and that’s the thing, you can be a fan, or you can be The Man. No shame sitting out there with the regular people. She asks what happens if she doesn’t sign the contract, and Deville tells her to just sign the contract.
Bianca agrees, and Lynch starts in on a diatribe about how the fans support Belair more than they do her. Finally she relents and signs the contract, promising that the match ends the same way it did before. She throws the contract at Bianca (who catches it) and storms off, holding the title high.
We get a Edge vs. Seth Rollins video package.
Edge makes his entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Paul Heyman is walking backstage and on his phone when he runs into Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart driving their tank around.
They offer him a ride, he turns it down, and Kayla Braxton rolls up looking for an interview.
He says she nags and pokes until she gets her answers, and Roman Reigns is going to watch his cousins defend the tag titles and then he’ll answer Lesnar’s challenge.
Heyman turns around to leave and immediately runs into Big E, literally. E gurns and makes weird little noises while holding the Money in the Bank briefcase up.
Edge vs. Seth Rollins
Edge with a wristlock, arm wringer, Rollins rolls through and reverses and wrenches his arm before letting go. The Rated-R Superstar shaking some life into his arm, backing off before going for a collar and elbow, headlock takeover, back and forth, Edge stops short of the turnbuckle and drop toeholds Rollins into it before spiking him shoulder-first into the post.
To the apron, knees in the ropes, off the ropes, Rollins cuts him off with a knee and heads up top, Edge to the floor, Seth dives on him and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Rollins is in control on the floor, yelling at Edge against the barricade and knocking him down with a forearm! Back inside, diving knee... NOPE! Seth with a top wristlock, trying to grind him down, following it up with a dragon screw! Rollins hits a sloppy Glam Slam and asks Edge how it tastes before lifting him up for a second, cleaner Glam Slam... NO GOOD!
Jockeying for position over the Impaler DDT, Pedigree blocked, Edge rolls through, leg pick, Rollins backflips through, Edge hits the Pedigree... NOT ENOUGH! Seth to the floor, Rated-R Superstar off the top with a splash and we go to break with both men down and out!
Back from commercial, Edge hits a full nelson slam for a two count! Both men slow to rise, Edge heads up top, Rollins right up with him, jockeying for position, release gourdbuster off the top! The Rated-R Superstar perches, hops down, pick the legs, Edgecator! Seth fights out, looking for the crossface, Edge reverses to a folding press for two and then locks his own arm-trap crossface on!
Rolling through a pin, maintaining the hold, Rollins crawls, reaching, desperate and Edge smashes his face into the mat as he gets the ropes and referee Jessika Carr calls for the break! Impaler DDT, spear countered to a neckbreaker! Seth charges in, revolution Liger Bomb... ROLLINS KICKS OUT! Jockeying for position in the turnbuckles, Rollins hits the buckle bomb!
Off the ropes, Edge gets up and hits the spear... HE CANNOT KEEP SETH ROLLINS DOWN! Rollins with some right hands, Death Blow blocked, Seth trapping referee Jessika Carr in the corner and hitting a low blow! Striking away, superkick knocks Edge out, a basement superkick follows, Seth screams at him, asking why he won’t die before hitting another basement superkick!
Edge is out on his feet, posting up... BLACKOUT! Shock plays across Rollins face, slow to cover...
Seth Rollins wins by pinfall with Blackout.
Post-match, Carr calls for EMTs because Edge is unresponsive and the Rated-R Superstar gets stretchered out to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a hype reel for the new-look NXT.
We see Edge being wheeled to the ambulance, accompanied by Rey Mysterio, Sonya Deville, and five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce.
Seth Rollins is interviewed nearby.
He’s shellshocked and has trouble putting thoughts together about how he feels right now.
Roman Reigns is in his office when the Usos return.
He gives them a pep talk and they resolve to retain the tag titles.
Roman turns to Paul Heyman and says he saved him, why didn’t he tell him Brock was at SummerSlam? Heyman freezes, unable to answer, and we go to break.
Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs. the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) (c) (WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)
Ford with an enzuigiri on Jimmy Uso out the gates, to the apron, dropkick to Jey and Jimmy blasts him to the floor and dives on him to send us to break!
Back from commercial, the Usos are in control and working Dawkins over at length. Profits work together to send the Usos to the floor, Ford tags in... TOPE CON GIRO WIPES THE CHAMPIONS OUT!
Roman Reigns enters and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Ford hitting lariats all over, land on his feet on a back suplex, kick combo, running hot with only one shoe on! Tag to Dawkins, he runs right into a superkick for two! O’Connor roll, no good, more superkicks, Jey off the top... ANGELO KICKS OUT OF THE DIVING SPLASH! Desperate forearms, blind tag from Montez!
Jimmy legal, off the top, knees up on the splash, Ford off the top but Roman Reigns slides in and breaks it up...
Street Profits win by disqualification, presumably.
Roman chokes Montez out with the guillotine choke! Reigns gets on the mic and says if Lesnar wants it, he’s gonna get it, and he’ll smash him as soon as he’s done smashing Finn Balor.
The lights go down and come back up on a swirling hell vortex graphic.
THE DEMON IS HERE!
He slides in the ring and stares down Reigns.
That’s the show, folks.
