When Sasha Banks made her return from a months long absence and immediately turned on Bianca Belair after the two briefly aligned to win a tag team match, it made clear exactly what WWE had in mind.
Sure enough, during this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Banks challenged Belair to a SmackDown women’s championship match at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for Sat., Aug. 21, 2021, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The champion wasted no time accepting said challenge.
The last time these two wrestled each other they made history as the first black women to headline WrestleMania back in April in Tampa, Florida. They won an ESPY for that match.
Here’s the updated SummerSlam match card:
- Roman Reigns (c) vs. John Cena (Universal championship)
- Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Goldberg (WWE championship)
- Nikki A.S.H. (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley (Raw women’s championship)
- Bianca Belair (c) vs. Sasha Banks (SmackDown women’s championship)
- The Usos (c) vs. The Mysterios (SmackDown tag team championship)
