When her fiancé Andrade got his WWE release, there was speculation Charlotte Flair might someday follow him to wherever he landed (it ended up being AEW). Then her father Ric left Vince McMahon’s employ, and there was a new round of chatter - especially when Charlotte went to Mexico City to watch El Idolo and The Nature Boy work together at AAA’s Triplemania show.
But it always seemed unlikely in the short term, as Flair winning her 12th main roster singles title at SummerSlam reminded us. And in his new interview with Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions, Ric seems to think it’s unlikely to ever happen.
Asked about how Vince and his daughter reacted to his leaving, Ric talked about The Queen’s plans, and any notion that there was heat on him that could affect her:
“Ashley [Charlotte’s real name] would never leave there. She’s the happiest she’s ever been. And obviously they’re not mad at me [or she wouldn’t have won at SummerSlam].”
Ric’s been known to tell a tall tale, and Charlotte’s had to walk a few back in her day. She may not love her dad undercutting her future negotiating position. But I’d say this is probably a sign her contract isn’t up soon. You’d think Naitch would know not to potentially mess with his daughter’s money.
Check out Ric Flair’s entire chat with Paquette, which includes an update on his potentially joining AEW (he says he hasn’t talked to Tony Khan), thoughts on returning to the ring (he wants it, but would ask McMahon first), and lots of drinking stories - here.
