When a babyface holds the WWE’s United States championship, there’s a decent chance he’ll hold an open challenge for the belt. After winning the belt from Sheamus at SummerSlam, Damian Priest is following in the footsteps of guys like John Cena, Robert Roode & Jeff Hardy to do the same.
Priest’s open challenge will be the first thing we get on Raw tonight (Aug. 30).

Who will answer the call? Sheamus is already busy this evening, facing Bobby Lashley in a non-title match, so...
The most interesting possibility is reported free agent Adam Cole. There haven’t been any reports Cole re-signed with WWE after his contract expired last Friday though, so don’t get your hopes up.
The Miz & John Morrison were going to have a match this week, but WWE isn’t advertising that any more. Priest’s been feuding with both those guys for months, so let’s hope they’re in his rearview.
Fellow NXT alums Karrion Kross & Keith Lee could be interesting options, although neither man really should be taking a loss. It’s always possible the open challenge ends in a disqualification to set-up a tag match later in the show, or a rematch at a later date.
