Karrion Kross was recently called up to the main roster and has been pulling double duty, working both NXT as its champion and Monday Night Raw. You might think that would telegraph the result of his match against Samoa Joe for that very title in the main event of NXT TakeOver 36 tonight (Sun., Aug. 22, 2021) at the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida.
And you would be correct.
Joe pinned Kross clean right in the center of the ring after a musclebuster to make him the first ever three time champion in NXT history.
Joe, for his part, looked fantastic in his first match back in well over a year. He perfectly embodied the role he was playing here, the guy who could square up with Kross and go blow-for-blow like no one else has been able to during Karrion’s run with the title.
They had a physical match, going back-and-forth, each giving as much as taking. They traded their sleeper hold finishes late but both managed to work their way out. But Joe caught Kross on the ropes and picked him up from there to his the musclebuster to score the three count.
