The biggest star of the past 20 years, John Cena, was back to headline another SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat., Aug. 21, 2021) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. This time, he was trying to take the Universal championship from Roman Reigns, which would break the WWE recognized record of 16 world title wins.
He knew he was going to get his ass kicked, he said going in, he just needed to put Reigns down for the count of three.
To that end, Cena tried. He took his lumps, and then he hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle and the AA for a two count. He took his lumps, and then he hit the AA through the commentary desk on the outside for a two count. He took his lumps, and then he hit the AA from the second rope for a two count.
He just couldn’t get the three.
He tried to use Roman’s own moves against him, but he failed with that. And when it came time, and Reigns hit his spear, Cena couldn’t answer the three count. He was pinned, defeated, fair and square, thoroughly, and without question.
Then, Brock Lesnar (more on that here).
