Becky Lynch returns at SummerSlam, wins SmackDown women’s championship

WWE shamelessly promoted Sasha Banks wrestling Bianca Belair all the way up to and even during tonight’s (Sat., Aug. 21, 2021) SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, despite the fact the company knew she would not be wrestling on the card. There really is no justification for doing such a thing, even with the “card subject to change” disclaimer, but no one will care tomorrow.

That’s because Becky Lynch is back.

After announcing Carmella would take Sasha’s place, and Belair vowing to take her frustrations about it out on her, Lynch’s music hit to a thunderous ovation and the new mother made her way down to the ring. She kicked Carmella in the gut, tossed her out, and took her out of commission. Then she got back in the ring, asked Belair to tear the roof off the joint with the title on the line, and they got down to business.

That business lasted a number of seconds.

She offered her hand to Bianca, and when the champion went to shake it, Becky threw a cheap shot. Then she laid her out with what Michael Cole called a manhandle slam and pinned her clean right there.
