Zoo time is she and you time, the mammals are your favourite type, and you want her tonight. Heartbeat, increasing heartbeat, you hear the thunder of stampeding rhinos, elephants and tacky tigers, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show, folks.

The show opens with the usual recap/hype reel video package.

Malcolm Bivens is in the ring with the Diamond Mine.

He says if there’s one thing he dislikes, it’s negativity, but if he’s gonna get negative, he’s gonna go full negative, and KUSHIDA is a liar and a coward. But he gets it, he wouldn’t want to defend his title against Roderick Strong either. So Roddy is offering up an open challenge.

Ilja Dragunov vs. Roderick Strong

Mat grappling to start, Strong with a wristlock, Dragunov gets out of it and they stalemate. Roddy backs him into the ropes, they break and now we get chops on chops on chops! Heel trip puts Ilja into the ropes and Strong puts boots to him against the ropes! Roddy with a legpick, Dragunov counters with an upkick but Strong lays knees in!

Ilja with a backfist into a senton, cover for one! Side headlock, Roddy out of it, chops in the corner, whip reversed and he takes the turnbuckles hard! Dragunov with a running knee, big suplex, headed up top, nobody home but he rolls through and lays Strong out with a knee! High backfist misses, low backfist takes Roddy off his feet, cravate knees, Ilja is rolling!

Whip reversed, Tiger feint countered with a dropkick! Action to the floor, trading chops, Dragunov misses the big stomp and Strong puts him face-first into the steps! HALF NELSON BACKBREAKER INTO THE APRON SENDS US TO BREAK!

Back from commercial, Strong with a nearfall, he follows it up with a grounded Cobra Twist, Dragunov fights to his feet, legsweep into overhead elbows, Roddy tries to get away but Ilja hammers him with one of those falling elbows! Waistlock, drawing him up, a red-faced Russian god of war as he snaps off a German suplex! Holding the waistlock, another German!

Still holding on, bleeding from the forehead all over Roddy’s back, Strong back elbows his way out of it, Dragunov with a Matrix evasion and then he gets the cradle German suplex... NOT ENOUGH! Calling for it... TORPEDO MOSKAU COUNTERED WITH A KNEE TO THE FACE BUT DRAGUNOV STAYS ON TARGET...

Ilja Dragunov wins by pinfall with Torpedo Moskau.

Post-match, Ilja calls WALTER out to no response.

We see Samoa Joe making his way into the arena tonight to send us to break.

Back from commercial, we get a Prime Target video package for Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly.

Hit Row make their entrance.

B-FAB gets on the mic and talks about Santos Escobar ripping Swerve’s grill out, and he calls Santos out, saying it’s on sight.

Escobar appears on the tron and calls him out, saying it was fun to take his grill but he realizes he may have disrespected his culture and he gets it, he saw Hit Row burn masks. But he doesn’t trust his crew, so he’s not going to bring the grill to him, but he’s out in the parking lot, no Wilde, no Mendoza, and if Swerve comes alone, he’ll hand it over and they can solve this like gentlemen.

Isaiah Scott heads outside and approaches Santos, and of course, here come Joaquin and Raul to beat him down! Hit Row mobilize and head after him but the Legado del Fantasma get their licks in. Top Dolla throws Wilde into a garage door but Mendoza makes the save! B-FAB has a steel pipe and starts whacking dudes, Dolla chokebombs Wilde into the door!

Swerve puts Escobar into the garage door a few times and takes his grill back!

We get a video of LA Knight training and bragging about how Ted DiBiase is gonna be his butler after TakeOver and he approaches Josh Briggs and promises him ten grand if he injures Cameron Grimes out tonight.

This sends us to break.

Back from commercial, Imperium get a promo.

WALTER says tonight isn’t about him and Ilja, it’s about Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner teaching MSK a lesson, and they concur.

“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase is on commentary for the next one.

Cameron Grimes vs. Josh Briggs

Gimes picks the leg, shifts to a wristlock, but gets distracted by LA Knight and Briggs runs him over! Pressing the attack for a beat, catching Cameron on a crossbody but he floats over and throws punches. Whip reversed, crossbody forearm, off the ropes, another one! Josh goozles him, countered, waistlock, back roll, duck a lariat... CROSSBODY POWERSLAM!

Charging in...

Cameron Grimes wins by pinfall with Cave-In.

Post-match, Knight lays Grimes out and taunts DiBiase.

Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae are hanging out when Indi Hartwell rolls up.

They act disgusted when she relates the details of her last date with Dexter Lumis, aside from the hot air balloon ride, which they have to admit is pretty cool. She threatens to get matching tattoos and wants to take things to the next level, to which Johnny says the real proof is wrestling as a team. Gargano asks how that cake tasted last week, and Hartwell says Dexter loved it and even had room for pie, which is an oral sex joke for those of you who might live a sheltered life.

Back from commercial, Io Shirai and Zoey Stark are interviewed backstage.

Stark says they have completely different backgrounds, they don’t speak the same language, but just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, this friendship won’t happen overnight. Shirai cuts her off and says they’re not friends and it’s only about defending the titles.

In-Dex (Dexter Lumis & Indi Hartwell) vs. Jessi Kamea & Robert Stone (Mixed Tag Team Match)

Stone and Lumis to start, Robert throwing kicks, going for a leg pick but he’s unable to budge Dexter. He backs off, Franky Monet throws him right back inside and he refuses a tag and gets slapped! Kamea in, Indi cuts her off, putting boots in stereo with Dexter! Monet tries to cut Lumis out, referee Jessika Carr throws her out when she catches her and we go to break.

Back from commercial, the women are legal and Kamea is in control. Jessi misses a slingshot senton, Hartwell crawling for the tag but she kicks Kamea into Stone and that’s a tag baby! Lumis in hot, striking, corner lariat into a bulldog! Indi tags in, the match breaks down, Jessi with a slam into a half-crab! Hartwell gets the ropes to force the break but no tag!

Robert goes for a plancha but falls way short and Kamea tries to nail Dexter with a forearm to no avail! Indi goes after her, smashes her into the lexan and then back inside, Rock Bottom into Silence... IT’S OVER!

In-Dex win by submission with Silence from Indi Hartwell on Jessi Kamea.

Post-match, Lumis and Hartwell stare intensely at each other, Indi goes to Beth Phoenix at ringside and gets a little pep talk before returning to the ring and approaching Dexter. She gets on one knee and pulls out a ring! Lumis nods his assent and she puts the ring on him and they smooch!

Commentary hypes up the rest of the show tonight and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Roderick Strong is interviewed backstage.

Malcolm Bivens rolls up and says Ilja Dragunov is a heavyweight so as far as he’s concerned, the match never happened and Strong is still focused on being #1 contender to the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.

Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai are interviewed via satellite.

Gonzalez says from the moment she showed up at TakeOver a year ago she knew what she was getting into and that Kai would betray her one day. Dakota says those are big words from Big Mommy Cool but how tough was she when she knocked her out weeks ago? Raquel says she’s dominated the division and she’s a superstar now and Kai isn’t taking the title off of her.

Dakota calls her delusional and says she kicked her face off before she could put her hands up and taught her everything she knows. She made her a somebody and at TakeOver 36, she’s gonna be the somebody that she beats to become champion. Gonzalez is skeptical and wishes her luck, saying there’s nobody on this planet like her.

Kai might be one of the best in the world, but she doesn’t have a real bone in her body and is just here to use people. Dakota says she can call her what she wants but she’ll be calling her champion after Sunday. Raquel calls her a sidekick, Kai fumes, and that’s that.

Carmelo Hayes vs. Duke Hudson (NXT Breakout Tournament Semifinals)

Circling, collar and elbow, Hudson backs him into the corner but Hayes slips away. Waistlock, Duke slings him off but Carmelo lands on his feet! Side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, mat slam, back to the headlock, reversed, shot off, roll over, back to the headlock! Staying on him, shot off, shoulder block, leapfrog, springboard lariat!

Hayes with a cover for two, headlock, wrenching it in, Duke lifts him up... BACK SUPLEX OVER THE ROPES AND TO THE FLOOR SENDS US TO BREAK!

Back from commercial, Hudson throws Hayes into the corner, he sidesteps the charge and hits a jawbreaker, enzuigiri follows, whip blocked. Duke hits a belly-to-belly suplex, ends up on the floor, back in and Carmelo hits a scissors kick to cut him off! Slingshot DDT on the apron! Back inside, right hands, Hudson turtling up, Hayes with a wacky tilt-a-whirl facebuster... STILL NO!

Carmelo up in the corner, perched, he counters a press slam, small package for two! Pump kick into a Codebreaker, up top again...

Carmelo Hayes wins by pinfall with a diving guillotine leg drop.

Post-match, Hayes is interviewed on the stage.

He says he called his shot two weeks ago and he kept his word, and he’s beat guys two-three times his size the whole way up, and just like a video game you gotta face the final boss, and here’s the plot twist— he’s the final boss, not Odyssey Jones.

Enter Jones, clapping.

He laughes at the idea of Carmelo being the final boss, saying the whole NXT universe is going to sound the alarm after he wins next week.

We get a video package for Jacy Jayne.

MSK are getting fired up backstage to send us to break.

Back from commercial “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase visits Cameron Grimes in the trainer’s room.

He apologizes but Grimes says he got himself into this mess and all Ted did was give him the opportunity to win the Million Dollar Championship he wanted. But when he stopped believing in himself, the Million Dollar Man believed in him, and he ain’t a butler. He tears the shirt off and says they’re gonna be Million Dollar Champions goin’ to the moon!

Imperium (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel) vs. MSK (Nash Carter & Wes Lee) (c) (NXT Tag Team Championship)

Aichner and Lee to start, circling, Wes with a go-behind, standing switch, waistlock takedown but Lee lands on his feet! Collar and elbow, Fabian knocks him down, charging in, going under, side headlock, shot off, boot up, blocked, Wes with a crucifix for one! Carter in, Bronco Buster, cover for one! Barthel tags in, hammerlock, bridging with a headstand, arm wringer, Nash rolls through and arm drags out of it!

Double thrust, whip, roll under, off the ropes, Marcel hammers him with an uppercut! Snapmare, Penalty Kick, tag to Aichner but Carter gets away and tags Lee in and the champs take control! Imperium on the floor, off the ropes, stereo dives caught into stereo slams to send us to break!

Back from commercial, Aichner with a nearfall off a short-arm lariat! Snapmare and a quick tag, working Lee over as we’re in the heat segment, Barthel with a ankle lock, hanging Wes in the ropes... STEREO DROPKICKS CAN’T KEEP WES LEE DOWN! Lee with some kicks for separation, crawling for the tag as WALTER makes his entrance and he gets it!

Carter in, hammering Aichner, enzuigiri, fired up, corner knee, roll-through snapmare into a Penalty Kick! Tag to Wes, they do the shoving standing shooting star press... NO! WALTER distracts referee DA Brewer, Imperium have Lee set, Ilja Dragunov runs in and Carter’s able to disrupt! Nash tags in...

MSK win by pinfall with a spinebuster / blockbuster combination on Fabian Aichner to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Post-match we get a wild brawl and WALTER powerbombs Carter into the apron! Imperium get Dragunov in the ring alone and WALTER chokes him out!

We see Karrion Kross and Samoa Joe walking backstage in split-screen to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Pete Dunne is standing in front of a brick wall with Ridge Holland.

Pete says you don’t step to geezers like them, and Ridge says he doesn’t care how long Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa have been doing this, but he respects that they’ve got the bollocks to challenge him. He’s going to make his name at Thatcher’s expense next week.

Commentary hypes up TakeOver 36.

Samoa Joe makes his entrance and gets on the mic.

He calls Karrion Kross out and says venom seeps through his lips when he talks about him. He thought he’d look forward to this one last face-to-face more but he realizes it’s pointless. He’s not a man here tonight to hurt Karrion’s feelings, he’s simply here to hurt him. So tuck your clock in your back pocket and find out what happens when there’s a little less space and a lot more opportunity between them!

Enter Karrion Kross.

He says he’s not gonna let Joe walk in after 36 months off and win the NXT Championship, and he’s calling security down right now, not to protect himself, but to protect Samoa. He gets in the ring and says he’s gonna drop Joe, but Samoa attacks first and knocks him down with a headbutt! Off the ropes... JOE DIVES INTO A PILE OF SECURITY GUARDS!

He takes Kross to the lexan and to the apron, to the steps, hammering him with punches until security pulls him off! Kross throws him into the steel steps, Joe recovers and knocks him through a panel of lexan and chain link! Fighting out past the barricade, wrestlers are trying to pull them apart now, and they go through another lexan panel!

That’s the show, folks.
