The above Becky Lynch-narrated video for Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC Octagon from BT Sport makes us think a lot of thoughts. But for starters, it’s just a great piece of promotion, and The Man nails her voiceover.
Fellow Irish folk with ties to trainer John Kavanagh, Lynch and McGregor have shouted each other out in the past... and used those interactions to tease the Notorious One appearing for WWE.
While more teases may be forthcoming, there’s probably not much reason to think Conor is coming to Vince McMahon’s world of sports entertainment any time soon. Even beyond the trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 next Saturday (July 10) in Vegas, McGregor seems committed to MMA for the first time in a while. If he beats Poirier a second time or loses a close fight, there’s a ton of money for Dana White and his controversial former champ-champ to make in the Octagon. If Conor gets destroyed, he and WWE would likely both want to wait before he shows up to deals with a bunch of men he once called show business “pussies”.
The Man can cut a promo in her sleep, so that she delivered her doesn’t tell us anything about her readiness to return to the squared circle. It should be soon, anyway.
And if you think this might mean some UFC/WWE collaboration, it’s worth pointing out this comes from their mutual UK broadcast partner BT Sport, not from either organization. McMahon and White’s teams had to sign off on it, but that’s probably the extent of it.
So just kick back and enjoy the newlywed’s always excellent mic work, and get ready to root for or against her countryman next Saturday.
