The NXT United Kingdom title clash between long-reigning champion WALTER and Russian spitfire Ilya Dragunov gave us one of 2020’s best matches. That match happened on NXT UK’s weekly show, and it looked like the long awaited rematch would as well.
But WWE announced WALTER had suffered a “severe injury”, postponing a bout that would have aired today (July 22). Fans speculated the injury was a work to delay until fans could be in the seats for WALTER/Dragunov II - or perhaps move it to a bigger stage altogether.
While reports were the Ring General’s injury was legit, it seems it will still accomplish the goal of moving the match onto a bigger show with a crowd.
This is the first official match booked for Sun. Aug. 22’s TakeOver 36 (although if you want to see if anything else was confirmed at yesterday’s taping in Orlando, you can peek here).
WWE has yet to announce a venue for TakeOver 36, but whether it’s at the Capitol Wrestling Center or somewhere in the preceding night’s SummerSlam locale, Las Vegas. It figures to have cheering fans in attendance.
Like the way this worked out?
