One of the best stories in WWE likely ends tonight

The match

Bobby Lashley defends the WWE championship against Kofi Kingston at tonight’s (Sun., July 18, 2021) Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The story

This is quietly a really good story, one of the best WWE is telling right now, even if it likely ends with tonight’s show.

It started with MVP stopping Kofi Kingston backstage to explain how disappointed he was in Kingston for how he’s gone about things since the end of KofiMania:

Kingston rebuked him then, affirming his own belief in his family and friends and himself.

Next, after a tag team loss, MVP was back again, this time to blame Kingston’s partner, Xavier Woods, for holding him back:

Kingston rebuked him then too, once again reaffirming his own belief in his family and friends and himself.

Fast forward a few weeks and it was Kingston saying MVP was getting in the way of Lashley, causing him to lose his edge and become soft. Not long after, look who scored a clean pinfall victory over Lashley in a non-title match:

Lashley responded to this with a mixture of shock, disbelief, and maybe even a little bit of doubt.

Then he got good and pissed off about everything, going straight to MVP and telling him how right Kingston was and how unacceptable it was that he could ever lose to someone like Woods:

No more alcohol and women and parties. Back to business, and you know what business that is too.

Even if they aren’t calling them that anymore.

See you tonight.
