Vince McMahon with the perfect open to SmackDown

You didn’t think WWE would hold its first television show in front of paying fans in over a year without a McMahon being the first person you saw, did you?

Sure enough, it was none other than Vince himself, whose “No Chance in Hell” theme received a thunderous ovation from the crowd in Houston, Texas at this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. You know what, though?

They played it perfectly.

Vince walked out, took in the crowd for a moment, his music stopped, and he asked one question before bailing to the back.

“Where the hell have you been?”

Hot damn, it’s good just to hear the crowd at all.

But for WWE, and Vince himself more specifically, to go with something this understated to get things started is a pleasant surprise I’m not sure anyone could reasonably expect from them. It’s so wildly out of character for the company, you can’t help but appreciate it.

It’s good to be back.
