Shaquille O’Neal wrestled a match on AEW Dynamite four months ago against Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet; it resulted in a table bump and stretcher job for the NBA legend. Oh yeah, he also went missing in the aftermath.
Paul Wight was hired by AEW around that same time, which got many wrestling fans excited by the idea of finally seeing Shaq and Paul Wight have a one-on-one match. They crossed paths in WWE at WrestleMania 32 in a Battle Royal, but nothing more ever came from it.
In a recent interview with PopCulture, Shaq directly addressed the possibility of a match against Paul Wight in AEW. He said he enjoyed his first match in AEW, and the path for a match against Wight is plain as day:
“I look forward to doing it again. I hear that Paul Wight’s still talking trash. So I’m gonna work out really hard this summer, and maybe we can do something very, very soon.”
“Shouldn’t be any problems for us getting together now. Last time there was a lot of bureaucracy and red tape. Now there is no red tape...I’m still kind of sore from the table, so I’m gonna work out in the summer, pump these muscles up, and I’ll be waiting for you Mr. Paul.”
Shaq also made it clear that his first AEW match was missing something without taking place in front a packed venue of loud wrestling fans. That shouldn’t be a problem for a match with Wight now that AEW is heading back on the road. Who knows, maybe Shaq can pump his muscles up enough in the summer just in time for All Out in early September in Chicago.
What’s your level of interest in seeing Shaquille O’Neal go one-on-one with Paul Wight in AEW?
