WWE SmackDown results, live blog (June 4, 2021): Two title matches

New, 254 comments

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (June 4, 2021) with a show from the ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, featuring all the latest build to the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for later this month in the very same venue.

Two championship matches are on the slate for tonight. First up is the Mysterios defending the SmackDown tag team titles against the Usos. Roman Reigns is pressuring Jey Uso to betray his brother, and there is still the lingering question about who attacked Rey Mysterio last week.

There’s also Apollo Crews defending the Intercontinental championship against Kevin Owens. Commander Azeez will be banned from ringside because he ruined last week’s match by hitting Owens with the Nigerian nail.

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on FOX. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

I was told a million times of all the troubles in my way, mind you grow a little wiser, little better every day. But if I crossed a million rivers, and I rode a million miles, then I’d still be where I started, liveblogging this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with Roman Reigns making his entrance, flanked by Paul Heyman as per usual.

He gets on the mic and says he believes in being direct about how he’s feeling, and last Friday by the end of the night he wasn’t happy, but with counsel from a wise man and a full week to chew on it, he’s changed his position on the tag title match that his cousins the Usos earned for tonight. It’s no secret that it all revolves around him, but he’s a giver and he allowed this to happen.

But let’s be very clear— Jimmy said it all last week and he’s sure he’s feeling it, but if you say you’re gonna win, you better win. As a matter of fact, let’s not waste any more time, and he asks Paul to fetch his cousins.

Enter the Usos.

Jey greets his cousin as tribal chief but Jimmy hangs back until Roman demands he acknowledge him. Jimmy says he thought he did already at Hell in a Cell last year, and the important part is that they’re winning the tag titles tonight. Reigns looks unimpressed but wishes them luck and tells them to make sure to win, because their whole family is watching.

The champions make their entrance and we go to break.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio (c) vs. the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) (WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)

Dominik and Jimmy to start, side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, drop down, leapfrog, Mysterio with a dropkick! Arm drag into an armbar, tag to his dad, powerbomb him into the Uso for two! Jey legal, making a comeback but Rey sidesteps and he goes face-first into the mat! Tilt-a-whirl headscissors sends Uso into the ropes, tag to Jimmy, Hot Shot lays Mysterio out!

Cover for two, Rey gets a jawbreaker for separation but eats an enzuigiri right after, kicking out at two! Action to the floor, back suplexing Mysterio into the barricade, back and forth, Rey with the low dive... JEY CATCHES HIM AND SAMOAN DROPS HIM INTO THE TABLE AND WE GO TO BREAK!

Back from commercial, Rey is being worked over by Jey in the corner, down and out in a bad way. Ode to Rikishi, tag, rear chinlock applied in the middle of the ring. Jey back in, block the tag, falling headbutt connects! Mysterio sidesteps a charge and the Usos wipe out in the corner! The path clear... DOMINIK MAKES THE TAG!

He dives on both Usos, throwing Jimmy back in, springboard crossbody for two! Jey slides in, jumping neckbreaker takes him out but Jimmy hits a superkick! Whip to the corner, up and over, knuckle lock, tornado DDT spikes Jimmy... NOT ENOUGH! Up top, jockeying for position, Dom gets away but no tag, assisted Samoan Drop... DOMINIK MYSTERIO KICKS OUT!

Low bridge sends the Usos to the floor, Rey with the seated senton to Jey but Jimmy cuts the vet off with a superkick! Back inside, Dominik with the drop toehold, but Uso gets up and lays him out with a superkick! Up top, diving splash... THE KNEES ARE UP! JEY IS TOO SLOW ON THE SAVE!

Dominik & Rey Mysterio win by pinfall with an inside cradle to retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

Post-match, commentary takes another look at the footage and finds that Jimmy Uso got a shoulder up at two.

Roman Reigns tells Paul Heyman to go and get the Usos and bring them to him.

We see Seth Rollins getting mic’d up backstage to send us to break.

Back from commercial, the Usos are trying to explain their loss to Roman Reigns but he explodes and says he doesn’t want to hear it.

They lost to a child and worst of all they called their shot and didn’t win, embarrassing the family. The only thing they’re lucky about is that there’s still time left in this show, so they better go beg to whoever they have to in order to get another shot. But before they do, he wants them to understand his position— they’re six-time tag team champions who have only ever been on WrestleMania once, and in less than a year, under Roman’s guidance, Jey closed the show.

Seth Rollins is interviewed backstage.

He cuts Kayla Braxton off mid-question, telling her that he doesn’t owe her or the WWE Universe anything, certainly not his time or an answer to her leading question. He goes so far as to take his microphone off and drop it on the floor, sitting back with a smug grin on his face.

Street Profits are hanging out backstage when Chad Gable rolls up.

He apologizes for butting in but he’s noticed a downward trend in their career. Montez Ford has lost six inches off his frog splash, and Angelo Dawkins’ Sky High looks more like a Grounded Medium. He asks them to hear him out and to consider what he’s done for Otis. He asks for the smoke and they say they’re insulted and it’s a no.

Carmella makes her entrance and gets an inset promo where she talks about how she’s prettier than everyone else in WWE, to send us to break.

Back from commercial, the Usos roll up on Sonya Deville and five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce.

Pearce emphasizes that the referee’s decision is final but Sonya says he DID make a mistake so they’re gonna talk it over and give them a decision tonight.

Liv Morgan gets an inset promo where she calls Carmella a seven and says she’s gonna make her tap with a boot to the face.

Carmella vs. Liv Morgan

Carmella piefacing her out the gates, Morgan gives chase, out and back in but Liv pulls her out and throws her into the barricade! Smashing Mella’s face into the apron, throwing her back inside, whip reversed, back elbow, Carmella sidesteps but Morgan hits an inverted double stomp backbreaker before releasing her into the turnbuckles! Cover for two!

Sidestep the charge, Carmella with a mat slam, drop toehold into the Code of Silence...

Carmella wins by submission with the Code of Silence.

We see Bianca Belair walking backstage to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Dominik and Rey Mysterio are walking backstage, ready to leave, when five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville roll up.

They inform them of the referee’s mistake and say they’ll have to defend their titles tonight again. The Mysterios turn around and head back.

Bianca Belair makes her entrance and gets on the mic.

She says Bayley has been pressed ever since she won the title but she hasn’t done anything about it but laugh, and most of the WWE Universe is laughing at her. Bayley isn’t the first one to try and keep her down, people have been trying to get her to shrink herself to soothe their insecurities since she was three. Calling her a showoff and mannish because she was muscular and athletic.

But nobody has ever once laughed at her before, and that’s utter disrespect, so she has a proposal. If Bayley’s that commited, she challenges her to a match at Hell in a Cell!

Bayley appears laughing on the tron, saying she’s not even in the arena tonight.

This room plastered with photos of herself, is her sanctuary, and she accepts the match, cackling.

Bayley’s laughing face appears on every screen in the ThunderDome as we cut away.

Street Profits are hanging out backstage when Otis comes up to them, pacing.

He tells them they’re out of line and Chad was just trying to help them, so they need to apologize. They rebut by asking him what he’s achieved since Gable took him under his wing, and that just makes Otis mad enough to attack them as we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a video package covering Shinsuke Nakamura’s crown-based feud with King Baron Corbin.

King Baron Corbin vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Corbin taking Nakamura into the corner for strikes immediately, being warned to get him out of the corner by referee Jason Ayers. Shinsuke sidesteps, enzuigiri, setting him up for the corner knees to the ribs! Cover for one, Nakamura looking for an armbar but Baron gets the ropes to force the break. Knees, whip reversed, Corbin out, he drops Rick Boogs with a lariat, back in but Shinsuke hits an STO for two!

Corbin with a lariat and a deep folding victory roll...

King Baron Corbin wins by pinfall with a deep folding victory roll pin.

Post-match he goes to grab his crown but Boogs cuts him off and Nakamura is able to keep the crown!

We see Kevin Owens walking backstage when Commander Azeez attacks him and beats him down, ramming him with a road case! Road agents Pat Buck and (former ROH World Champion) Jamie Noble arrive to break it up and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Apollo Crews is in the ring, all smiles while we get a replay of the beatdown we just saw.

Apollo Crews (c) vs. Kevin Owens (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Owens right in with punches but Crews cuts him off with a shot to the ribs and a ribbreaker! Snap suplex, cover for one, off the ropes aned a knee to the gut lays Kev out! Arm wringer, whip into the turnbuckles and KO takes it hard! Body blows, whip across, Owens with a kick to the gut and a lariat to get back into it! Senton follows, a low-bridge drops Apollo to the floor!

KO off the ropes but hitting the ropes hurts his ribs and he stops short, Crews tripping him up on the apron! Olympic Slam follows, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Crews still in control, hammering Owens in the ring, throwing him around, German suplex but KO gets one off in return! But he’s slow to capitalize and Apollo gets him up in the turnbuckles, they jockey for position, a headbutt knocks Crews down, Kev perches... SENTON ATOMICO! Again he can’t capitalize, Apollo with a German suplex, a standing moonsault, his turn up top, frog splash... KO ROLLS AWAY!

Sidestep, shoulder to the post, superkick, off the ropes, pop-up powerbomb, pure adrenaline, into the cover... APOLLO KICKS OUT! Again up in the turnbuckles, Crews pulls him down... DEATH VALLEY DRIVER ON THE APRON! IT’S OVER!

Apollo Crews wins by pinfall with a Death Valley Driver on the apron to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Post-match, Sami Zayn runs down to attack Owens, hitting the Helluva Kick in the corner! He gets in KO’s face and asks him how it feels when you’re already hurt and somebody comes along and makes it worse. Referee Jessika Carr runs down to get between them but Sami returns to stomp the ribs once more for good measure!

Street Profits are backstage talking about their interactions with Chad Gable and Otis Dozovic. They warn Otis to stay away and mind his own business, because they don’t care what kind of bulldozer he is, they’re gonna send him to the junkyard and they want the smoke.

We see the Usos walking backstage ahead of our main event.

Back from commercial we get some hype for tomorrow’s episode of Talking Smack.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio (c) vs. the Uso (Jimmy & Jey Uso) (WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)

Jimmy and Dominik to start, striking away, whip across and Uso lays him out with a back elbow for two. Another cover, still no, big chop puts him into the corner. Tag made, working Mysterio over, action to the floor, Jey dives on him and we go to break!

Back from commercial, the Usos are still in control, grinding Dominik down. He gets some separation, reaching for the tag... TAGS MADE! Rey in hot, right hands and kicks to Jimmy, whip reversed, springboard crossbody... NOPE! Tag back to Jey, lifting Rey in a powerbomb, reversed to a Frankensteiner but Jimmy tagged back in!

Mysterio blocks a schoolboy, baseball slide follows, off the ropes, low dive! Back inside, setting Jimmy up... 619! Rey tags Dominik in, but Roman Reigns is here to lay Mysterio the Younger out with a Superman Punch! Referee Charles Robinson has no choice...

Dominik & Rey Mysterio win by disqualification, presumably.

Post-match, Roman spears Rey and dumps him out of the ring.

Reigns continues beating the champs down on the floor, hammering them with steel steps! He drags Dominik in the ring and chokes him out with the guillotine over Jimmy Uso’s objections. Jimmy leaves and Roman stares at Jey for a long beat before going back to beating Mysterio down and finishing with a powerbomb!

That’s the show, folks.
