Raw airs tonight (June 28) live from the ThunderDome in the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. This is the second Raw episode during the four week build towards the upcoming Money in the Bank 2021 event on July 18.
Drew McIntyre always gets another chance
Drew McIntyre cannot challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE championship again due to his loss against the All Mighty champ at Hell in a Cell.
That stipulation wasn’t enough to take Drew completely out of the WWE championship picture, however. He wrestled on Raw the very next night in a Money in the Bank qualifying match. The Money in the Bank briefcase is, of course, a one-way ticket to becoming the next WWE or Universal champion. In Drew’s case, if he wins the briefcase, he will have to wait for someone else to dethrone Bob before he can cash in on the WWE champion.
It turned out to be a moot point because Drew also blew that opportunity by losing the qualifying match against
That loss wasn’t enough to take Drew completely out of the WWE championship picture, however. Drew is now booked in another Money in the Bank qualifying match tonight on Raw. This is a “last chance” for last week’s losers to still gain entry into the ladder match. It will be McIntyre vs. Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles.
So, what happens if Drew fails again tonight? He’ll still probably find some way into that ladder match, because Drew McIntyre always gets another chance to become the WWE champion.
The title scene
WWE is combining the Raw women’s champion and Women’s tag team champions all into one match tonight. It will be a six woman tag pitting Rhea Ripley and the Sexy Muscle Friends vs. Charlotte Flair, Natalya, and Tamina. The strange thing here is that WWE hasn’t booked a likable babyface among any of these six women. I guess Natalya and Tamina still count as babyfaces, but their constant complaining about other wrestlers practicing during their interviews or photoshoot is pretty obnoxious. Ripley hasn’t been likable at all since she was called up to the main roster. Flair is a clear heel. I don’t know what the deal is with Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose. WWE isn’t making it easy to root for anybody here.
AJ Styles and Omos belittled the Viking Raiders in the backstage area last week, and they paid for it when the vikings later contributed to AJ losing his Money in the Bank qualifying match against Ricochet. This was one of the first times that Omos had to sell and...it was not good. These two teams should be clashing over the Raw tag team titles very soon, perhaps at Money in the Bank.
Bobby Lashley is set to defend the WWE championship against Kofi Kingston at Money in the Bank. After the way Lashley and MVP sadistically forced Kofi to watch them torture Xavier Woods inside Hell in a Cell last week, Kingston will have a face-to-face confrontation with MVP tonight.
Sheamus was outraged that WWE officials Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce didn’t grant him automatic entry into the Money in the Bank ladder match. When Pearce pressed the United States champion on the status of his broken nose, Sheamus quickly bailed from the scene, making it clear that he is still not interested in defending this title even one time.
Other stuff to keep an eye on
- Jinder Mahal, Cedric Alexander, and Jeff Hardy were not happy (along with Sheamus) about being excluded from the Money in the Bank qualifying matches. Mahal introduced the possibility of replacing one of the participants if there is an injury, and that idea piqued Alexander’s curiosity. Could this mean that Jinder and Cedric will be targeting Riddle, Ricochet, and Johnny Drip Drip tonight?
- Elias and babyface Jaxson Ryker will try to settle their bland and boring business in a strap match tonight. WWE doesn’t typically let either of these guys wrestle a long match, so it could be one of the quickest strap matches you’ll ever see.
- Superhero Nikki Cross and hypnosis voodoo Alexa Bliss made for an effective tag team last week. It was probably just a one week partnership, but I’d much rather be in their shoes right now than those of Shayna Bazler, Nia Jax, and Reginald.
What will you be looking for on Raw tonight?
