After losing a match against Sami Zayn at Hell in a Cell 2021, Kevin Owens indicated that he was taking a break from WWE. The rumor mill suggested that his upcoming time off from WWE was storyline-related.
It turns out Owens’ break from WWE will have a minimal duration, because he’s already been scheduled for a Last Man Standing match next week (July 2) on SmackDown against Sami Zayn, with the winner qualifying for the Money in the Bank ladder match on July 18.
Zayn thought he was done with Owens after Hell in a Cell (clearly forgetting that they will fight forever) and was understandably distressed by the news. He argued to WWE officials Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce that winning the pay-per-view (PPV) match over Owens should give him some kind of tangible reward. But nope, this is WWE, so television is more important than PPV. The Owens/Zayn match that actually matters is the one that will take place next week on SmackDown.
Kevin Owens’ time off from WWE is set to end after missing just one episode of SmackDown, and he now has a chance to earn a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match alongside Big E, Matt Riddle, John Morrison, and Ricochet.
Who do you think will be the last man standing between Owens and Zayn?
