Bobby Lashley defended the WWE championship against Drew McIntyre in the main event of tonight’s (Sun., June 20, 2021) WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) from the ThunderDome inside Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. The match was fought inside the Hell in a Cell cage, and it was billed as the last time Drew gets to challenge Lashley for the title.
The story of this match was all about MVP’s non-stop interference. He first squeezed his cane into the cell for Lashley to use to his advantage. He later assisted the All Mighty champion with a kendo stick.
Drew eventually put the champ down with a Claymore, but the referee was of course knocked out and could not make the count. A desperate McIntyre motioned for the official guarding the locked cell door to come in and make the count. That referee did indeed unlock the door and try to make the three count, but MVP followed him right into the cage and broke it up.
McIntyre was irate and took out all of his frustration on MVP, knocking him out with a Claymore. Soon after, Lashley was finally able to put Drew in the Hurt Lock on the outside of the ring, but Drew dove backwards through a table to break the hold.
Just when it looked like Drew had Bob set up for one final Claymore, MVP was back up and grabbed Drew’s ankle, preventing him from running forward. Drew crouched down to deal with the nuisance of MVP one final time, and that’s when Lashley rolled Drew up from behind for the three count.
That means Bobby Lashley is still the WWE champion, and Drew McIntyre can never challenge him for the title again.
