Roman Reigns is still your Universal champion after SmackDown Hell in a Cell match

New, 22 comments

After Roman Reigns attacked his son, Dominik, Rey Mysterio decided he wanted a piece of the Universal champion in not just any bout but a Hell in a Cell match. So it was scheduled for the pay-per-view (PPV) of the same name this Sun., June 20, 2021, at the ThunderDome in Tampa, Florida.

Then, in an unexpected turn of events, the two argued over social media and the match was moved to this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. WWE spent the evening promoting it as the first time a Hell in a Cell match would take place on network television.

In something of a surprise, Mysterio was given a lot of offense. In fact, he dominated the early part of the match.

But he’s still Rey Mysterio.

And that’s still Roman Reigns.

Eventually, the champ took over and it wasn’t long before he was giving us a repeat from last week. He did Rey just like he did Dominik — picked him up and threw him out of the ring. Reigns beat him, retained his title, and then, for good measure, choked him out once more to end the show.

With Jimmy Uso coming out to celebrate with him.

Make of that what you will.
