All televised wrestling’s been dealing with competition from the NBA and NHL playoffs, but SmackDown’s been dealing with it better than most.
Sure, on Fri., June 11, there weren’t any hockey games. And neither of the two basketball games were terribly competitive. Still, FOX won’t argue with the blue brand’s overnights. Per SpoilerTV, SmackDown grew its audience 3.4% from last week, to an average of 1,853,000 viewers across its two hours.
Ratings dipped a bit, but even at a .40 with 18 - 49 year olds, that was enough to tie for first place on the broadcast networks (with ABC’s 9 p.m. ET edition of 20/20).
Fans seem to be tuning in for a good show, with a hot main event angle. Especially as we get fewer nationally televised live sports options, that should continue to pay off for WWE and FOX on Friday nights.
