WWE NXT TakeOver: In Your House 2021 predictions

NXT’s Instagram

WWE NXT will be putting on their latest live special this weekend. And for the second year in a row, their post-WrestleMania event is a throwback... this 35th TakeOver will carry the In Your House name!

We’re here to help you get ready for the stacked card coming our way Sun., June 13 at 8PM Eastern from the Capital Wrestling Center, and streaming domestically on Peacock, and internationally on WWE Network.

If you’re new or someone who only checks out NXT for the live specials, we’ve got a full preview coming up for you a little later. Right now, we’ve assembled a motley crew of NXT-following Cagesiders to give us their thoughts & predictions on all ten matches.

Let’s get to it.

Karrion Kross (c) vs. Adam Cole vs. Pete Dunne vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Kyle O’Reilly for the NXT championship

Geno Mrosko: Everything about the build to this has made me want Cole to win, because he’s awesome, but no one has been clearly established as the next champion to knock the current titleholder off. Pick: Karrion Kross

Sean Rueter: Kross has always been a weird fit for the brand, and this gives him cover to leave without being pinned. A second reign for the Panama City Playboy not only instantly livens up the main event scene, it provides a natural bridge to KOR (or even old Cole rivals Dunne or Gargano) as his SummerSlam TakeOver challenger. Pick: Adam Cole

Kyle Decker: Cain and I once did a post together about how it’s uncommon for champions to lose their championships in multi-person matches. (That was back in 2017 so I don’t know if current data still backs that up, but I have a feeling it does.) I also felt that the more they add, the less likely that champion is losing. That applies here. Pick: Karrion Kross

Claire Elizabeth: This seems a weird and transitional match but also a perfect opportunity for a somewhat left-field choice to win. Let’s give it to my boy KOR, shall we? Pick: Kyle O’Reilly

Stella Cheeks: Karrion Kross is a boring champion. He just is. If this was a one-on-one match I might be persuaded to choose someone other than Kross, but considering this is a multi-man clusterf*ck I think it’s safe to say boring Karion Kross is here to stay. Pick: Karrion Kross

Ember Moon vs. Raquel González (c) for the NXT Women’s championship

Geno Mrosko: This feels like a title match worthy of the In Your House branding, a stopgap before they build to Io Shirai getting a chance at getting her belt back at the bigger show after SummerSlam. Pick: Raquel Gonzalez

Sean Rueter: As everyone else says, this is the establishing-win-over-a-respected-former-champ filler feud for Big Mami Cool. I’m hoping Shotzi Blackheart shows up to save her partner from a two-on-one post-match beatdown to set her up as a future challenger with a real chance of winning the belt. Pick: Raquel González

Kyle Decker: A big issue with this TakeOver (and this is the least excited I’ve been for a TakeOver in ages) is there doesn’t feel like any of the title matches are big. And it certainly doesn’t feel like any are changing hands. Ember is great, but she’s just here to give Raquel a big defense. Pick: Raquel González

Claire Elizabeth: Is NXT even legally allowed to have a women’s champion drop the title in her first PPV defense? Okay yes Charlotte but she was a guest and Raquel is home-grown... Pick: Raquel Gonzalez

Stella Cheeks: It’s too soon for Raquel to drop her championship belt. Ember is an established talent that will Raquel the fight of her life and make her look good when Ember eats the pin. Pick: Raquel Gonzalez

Bronson Reed (c) & MSK (c) vs. Legado Del Fantasma for the NXT North American & Tag Team titles

Geno Mrosko: If it wasn’t winner take all I could see maybe MSK losing the tag team titles but it would be strange to take the title off Reed so soon after the way they played up his North American championship victory. With heels likely winning the other big matches, the babyfaces are going to need one. It comes here. Pick: Reed & MSK

Sean Rueter: Sorry Haitch, I’m gonna go with what I want to see happen instead of just watching the show. Please move Santos Escobar up the ladder, and pick up the pace. Pick: Legado Del Fantasma

Kyle Decker: I suppose unlike the others, I can argue the bad guys escape with the titles, maybe with Escobar pinning one of the tag champs. But after Reed’s emotional win, I don’t see him losing the gold this way and this soon. Pick: Bronson Reed & MSK

Claire Elizabeth: MSK are just too damn good to separate them from the titles anytime soon. Pick: Bronson Reed & MSK

Stella Cheeks: This is one of those matches where the stipulation basically gives away the ending. There is no way both MSK and Bronson Reed drop their relatively new championships simultaneously. Especially since we’ve done the whole “heel stable has all the gold” angle relatively recently with Undisputed ERA. Pick: Bronson Reed & MSK

Cameron Grimes vs. L.A. Knight in a Ladder Match for Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar championship

Geno Mrosko: This feels like a genuine toss up, a testament to how they’ve built to it, but Grimes is far and away the more interesting character of the two. I feel like he could get more out of the title than Knight, so he gets the nod here. Pick: Cameron Grimes

Sean Rueter: Let me talk to you. I dig both these guys, but we’ve all collectively got a lot more invested (pun semi-intended) in Grimey. Pick: Cameron Grimes

Kyle Decker: My theory is this is going to end up with Knight & Grimes as a tag team managed by the Million Dollar Man. So for that to happen, a ladder match would need to end in a rare draw. How? Pick: Both Grimes and Knight fall off the ladder holding the title and referee doesn’t know what to do

Claire Elizabeth: Can I just say that I love whenever we get the Million Dollar Championship out of mothballs? It’s wonderful. Where’s Virgil when you need him? Anyway, Grimes is much more aerodynamic and thus built for a ladder match. Pick: Cameron Grimes

Stella Cheeks: TO THE MOON Pick: Cameron Grimes

Xia Li vs. Mercedes Martinez

Geno Mrosko: Even trying not to let outside rumors influence the pick here, it seems clear who is winning this match. Pick: Xia Li

Sean Rueter: Mercedes is the ultimate badass. But whatcha gonna do, sister, when a thousand year old princess who was trained by a dragon tells the student she torture-trained to kick your head off? Pick: Xia Li

Kyle Decker: It’s a shame that Martinez may never have a big win in NXT, but I don’t see her winning here. Triple H is high on Xia Li and her angle with Tian Sha is too early for her to lose such a hastily booked match. Pick: Xia Li

Claire Elizabeth: A) Mercedes Martinez is the greatest and B) I feel like being contrarian. Pick: Mercedes Martinez

Stella Cheeks: My love for Mercedes runs wild and deep, but sadly it seems like she exists in NXT to give younger talent the rub. My only consolation is that Xia Li and the Tian Sha storyline are worth seeing Mercedes lose again. Pick: Xia Li
