WWE NXT RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR May 4
We’re live from the Capitol Wrestling Center and there’s no time to waste. Here we go!
Leon Ruff vs. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott (Falls Count Anywhere)
Ruff is the first to make his way to the ring — even though I don’t expect it to stay there for very long. I’m actually surprised Scott didn’t jump him during his entrance. “Swerve” laughs and mocks Ruff as he walks down to ringside, flashing brighter that a platinum chain in his silver suit, and it’s Ruff who actually tried to get a hot start to the match before being held back by the referee. Scott knees Ruff in the face right after the bell rings when he comes charging in and throws him into the turnbuckle to lay on some fists. He misses with a haymaker and gets spun around, giving Ruff a chance to return the favor. Ruff tries to lock up a crucifix bomb but Scott knocks him down with some stiff shots. Scott ends up outside on an arm drag, Ruff tries to dive on him, and Scott gets thrown into the ring apron and goes head down. The match is now officially “anywhere.”
Scott gets a near fall on the entrance ramp as Ruff sells his shoulder. Scott whips Ruff back into the ring and lands a knee to the jaw. He stands on Ruff’s left leg from behind and kicks him in the chest. Ruff is hoisted up onto the ropes, Scott climbs to the top and hits a superplex which leaves Ruff screaming. Scott gets a near fall. Ruff rolls out playing as Scott yells at the camera “This is Swerve’s house and he wants to keep playing!” Ruff avoids a charging knee on the apron, Scott hangs upside down from the ropes after getting tangled up, and Ruff gives him a dropkick. Deja vu. Scott regains the upper hand and chucks a tool box at his head, narrowly missing him as we go to commercial!
Ruff and Scott went “all over the building” during the commercial break but they’re already back to the ring in time for the live broadcast. Scott is climbing the ropes in the ring with Ruff on the outside on the apron, Delayed vertical suplex turns into a crucifix bomb and Ruff crawls for the near fall. Scott kicks out at 2.999! Scott crawls to the apron and Ruff pulls him up by the hair. He baseball slides through Scott’s legs, goes for a powerbomb, Scott blocks it but punches the apron as Ruff moves out of the way. Reverse hurricanrana to the floor! Ruff crawls over to make a cover but Scott crawls away. Scott laughs and tells Ruff he’s nothing, he charges, Scott goes for the Confidence Boost with the assist of the plexiglass barricade but Ruff kicks out on the floor!
Scott goes knee first into the steps and Ruff picks up the toolbox and hits him with it, then goes for a frogsplash onto Scott. Scott kicks out! Dueling leg locks and Scott escapes with a backhand. Cutter from Ruff and Scott rolls outside! Cutter on the outside. Clothesline over the barricade. Ruff walks through the curtain, climbs up on top of the stage, and AJ Francis catches him and throws him back over the barricade. For whatever reason the camera cuts in and out, but Scott has Ruff back in the ring to hit the JML Driver and get the pinfall.
Your winner of this match: Isaiah “Swerve” Scott
Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory attempt to interrupt a meeting held by William Regal but are promptly rebuffed. Regal is in a meeting with Scarlett and doesn’t want to be interrupted. Theory likes her big... fingernails. We go back to the CWC for a match!
Asher Hale vs. Cameron Grimes
Grimes picks up Hale and slams him right on his face. Grimes goes for a single leg and Hale responds with a headlock. Grimes reverses it and knocks him down with a shoulder tackle. Hale leapfrogs ducks and clips the leg. He kicks Grimes in the left leg repeatedly. Grimes reverses a whip and takes him down with a clothesline. Grimes with an uppercut, a kick to the head, to the body, and a series of stomps. Hale is slumped. Now the two trade kicks but Grimes lands another uppercut. Hale with an enzuigiri. Hale twists Grimes along the ropes but Grimes tosses him across the ring. Hale goes to the top rope for a missile dropkick and a near fall. Standing switch. Knee to the stomach. Grimes plants Hale in the middle and follows it with the Cave In for the pin.
Your winner of this contest: Cameron Grimes
Franky Monet mocks Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter. Carter tries to go after her and Catanzaro holds her back. Commercial!
Grimes is celebrating backstage and Ever-Rise comes up saying they want to join him for the post match celebration. He says there’s only room for three in VIP: “Me, myself, and Cameron Grimes!”
Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher
James Drake: “The GYV are a gift to the NXT universe.” Zack Gibson: “Trust me when I say this, nobody needs to to see your ugly webbed toes, so put your Crocs back on and shove it, or we’ll be on the first plane back to England. We need to be appreciated, because we are the Grizzled Young Veterans, SSSSSOOON to be...”
Ciampa and Thatcher interrupt and it’s time for a match! Ciampa and Drake are going to start things off. They lock up and go into the rope as the NeXTras chant for the match. Shoulder tackle by Ciampa for the first fall. Leg headlock from Ciampa. Chop knocks Drake down for another near fall. Thatcher tags in and stretches Drake out. Arm drag. Drake goes to the GYV corner and Gibson tags in. Gibson and Thatcher tie up and Gibson goes behind. Thatcher cranks on his left arm, Gibson shoots him off, shoulder tackle for two.Thatcher takes Gibson down and he goes for right arm as Gibson rolls onto his face in pain. Knee to the spine twice from Thatcher. Gibson reverses and hits a forearm to the face then twists up the left leg. Thatcher fishhooks him and gets back up to apply a sleeper hold. Drake runs in to kick Thatcher in the face but he doesn’t let go of the sleeper. Thatcher runs in to help his teammate and both of GYV get clubbed in the chest to sent us to the break!
We’re back with uppercuts in the corner from Thatcher and an illegal tag by GYV that the referee disallows. Thatcher pulls Drake back in but Drake grabs him by the ear and rips at his head as he throws him into the ropes. Forearms to the side of the head to follow up before the LEGAL tag to Gibson. Gibson and Drake double team Thatcher for a near fall. Gibson with a facelock and a headlock to the grounded Thatcher. He gets back to his feet and does a reversal, but both mean collide heads in the process. Drake gets the tag and grabs the leg, Thatcher kicks him away and leaps to tag Ciampa! Ciampa cleans house on both members of GYV. Drake gets whipped into the corner for a furious series of chops. Thatcher gets the tag and pummels Drake too. The ref makes him break clean. Ciampa tags back in and they hit stereo chops, a running knee from Ciampa, and Drake kicks out at 2!
Drake is down and selling the knee to the jaw. Ciampa wrings the arm to pull him back to his feet and tags Thatcher in, who promptly hits a forearm to the head. Drake kicks Thatcher off and tries to crawl to Gibson, Thatcher grabs him from behind but Drake elbows his way free and tags Gibson. Thatcher hits a belly to belly suplex and Gibson breaks up the pinfall. Ciampa and Drake spill outside and the men inside trade chops and uppercuts. Gibson drops to his knees and Thatcher hits the double underhook suplex for two. Thatcher goes for an armbar. Drake kicks Ciampa into the announce table as Ciampa tries to stop him from interfering. Drake hits a suicide dive to knock him over the table as he gets back up. Gibson gets a near fall back in the ring. Wade Barrett says he lost a shoe when Ciampa spilled over the table. That’s bad news!! Roll up in the ring for a near fall. Thatcher hits Gibson with Barrett’s shoe and puts on the armbreaker, and Gibson taps out!
The winners of this contest: Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher
Gargano and Theory try and fail again to get a meeting in Regal’s office, but he’s not even IN the office, so Regal interrupts them knocking on his door. Gargano tries to talk his way out of the match with Bronson Reed, Regal says no, and to make matters worse he tells Theory that he’s got a match with Karrion Kross next week. Commercial!
Scott and his entourage are celebrating backstage when we return. “I told y’all!” He and his crew leave the building to celebrate — presumably the same VIP lounge as Grimes? This leads us to a video package putting over Sarray and Zayda Ramier. They’ll fight tonight!
Karrion Kross has something to say
“Three weeks ago I made something crystal clear — all you had to do is step up and roll the dice. Instead I was met with people saying they weren’t afraid of me. Guess what? I ain’t afraid of you either. WHAT, are we waiting for? Let’s give these people what they want. Let’s give them a fight! I don’t need to go back there and prove anybody wrong, you have to come out here and prove yourself right. But don’t get it twisted, I’m not going to wait for somebody to stab me in the back. Next week, Austin Theory, I’m going to dive bomb you on your head.”
Kyle O’Reilly interrupts! “I get it Kross. I get why you think everyone should be afraid — sheer dominance, right? I’m sensing a little hostility so let me just make this perfectly clear. I came out here to tell you, to your face, that I’m not afraid of you and with all due respect you’re NXT champion so this is the match I want. Something tells me this is the match you want too, so let’s give the NXT Universe...”
Pete Dunne interrupts! “Are you two having a laugh? I don’t care who wants to see this match, and I don’t care about the NEW Kyle O’Reilly, and trust me mate I don’t care that you stand there as NXT champion. Because the truth is, I’m the baddest man in NXT, and see if either of you two think otherwise then try to prove me wrong. I dare ya!” He throws down the microphone but guess what?
Finn Bálor interrupts! “Pete Dunne, been there done that. Kyle O’Reilly, been there done that — twice. Kross, once you’re done with Theory..” and this breaks out into everybody fighting in the ring. O’Reilly is jumped by security when he falls outside and Kross clears the ring on his own before one lone security person tries to have a word with him and takes a Saito suplex onto his head! Everybody is sent to the back as Kross stands tall with the title. Bálor backs away smiling. Gargano and Theory jump Kross from behind as he’s staring Bálor down. Kross gives Theory the Saito suplex, Gargano gives him a superkick, he goozles Theory, Kross takes STEREO superkicks. Gargano lays out Kross with the North American title as the NeXTras boo loudly. Kross is the babyface? That wasn’t the way I saw it. Scarlett gets back in the ring to check on her man as we go to a break.
Gargano and Theory are fleeing the building even though Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae have a women’s tag team title match. Gargano claims they are “going to get the party ready” and they can’t drive away fast enough.
Zayda Ramier vs. Sarray
The bell rings and both women tie up. Ramier is taken down, kips up to her feet, the women go back and forth until Sarray kicks Ramier in the gut. She shoots Ramier off and hits a dropkick, celebrating immediately. They tie up in the corner and trade uppercuts. Ramier with a leapfrog and she rolls through with Sarray into a rear naked choke. Sarray gets her fingers on the ropes and Ramier breaks the hold. Sarray kicks her away and goes for a schoolgirl roll up for 2. Sarray with a slam and she ties up the legs to sit on Ramier’s back. Sarray goes for a bridging chinlock but Ramier gets a rope break. Sarray claps to get the NeXTras to do the same and hits a dropkick into the ropes. Back suplex bridge for 2! Sarray climbs to the top rope for a missile dropkick. Ramier staggers to her feet and throws a forearm. Sarray returns the favor. Ramier shoots her into the ropes but Sarray responds with a dropkick and signals for something big. She misses a dropkick into the ropes and Ramier gets a near fall. Spear and uppercut in the corner. Slingblade by Ramier for 2. Sarray with a kick and a pair of German suplexes to get the pinfall.
The winner of this contest: Sarray
WALTER is speaking to Imperium via Zoom conference call. It’s hard to understand what he’s saying but it’s clear he’s very disappointed with his crew. Promo for whatever the Diamond Mine is. Commercial break!
Sarray goes backstage to thank Zayda Ramier for a good match. Meanwhile Toni Storm and Zoey Stark are getting in each other’s faces until two referees come to break them apart. Stark goes to check on Ramier and Sarray gives her respect too.
Jake Atlas vs. LA Knight
At least Atlas got an entrance, but this is clearly Knight’s show, because he gets a microphone and starts talking trash. “I’m going to punt you so far down the street you’re going to NEED an atlas to find your way back. And that’s not a threat, that’s just a fact of life!” Atlas is in control after the bell rings though and Knight has to fight his way free with his fists. Wade Barrett wants to know what the Diamond Mine is. So do I, actually. Atlas leaps over Knight and hits two boots to the face, sending Knight rolling outside. He goes for a suicide dive but Knight hits an uppercut and a running knee, followed by a diving tackle back into the ring. Boots to the gut connect. A knee drop doesn’t. Atlas throws open and closed fists and ducks a clothesline to land a knee. German suplex. Two count! Knight kicks out. Drop toe hold into the corner. Knight follows with boots. He sets Atlas on the top rope for another punch. Atlas avoids him when he comes running and hits a bunch of kicks, but Knight hits the BFT for the 1-2-3 and it’s all over.
The winner of this contest: LA Knight
Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae are in the locker room. LeRae says they’re going to become champions tonight. She tells Hartwell not to think about “stupid boys” and stay focused on the fact they have a title match. That’s coming up in the main event!
Toni Storm declares Zoey Stark “the flavor of the month” and says “you don’t deserve to be breathing the same damn oxygen as me.” Ouch! “I am a global superstar, former and future women’s champion. You? You’re a future nobody that soon everyone is going to forget about. Zoey, I brought you into this business and whenever I’m ready so help me God I will take you right back out of it.”
Legado del Fantasma are in the ring. Santos Escobar: “The measure of a man. You’ve heard me talk about blood, tradition, heritage, legacy. You’ve seen me become the NXT cruiserweight campeon, and the undisputed EMPEROR of lucha libre. Last week you all witnessed a moment, an iconic moment, a premonition. I will recover what’s rightfully mine — the NXT cruiserweight championship.” His flunkies also note that they gave MSK a beating last week and Raul Mendoza has a good laugh. Joaquin Wilde: “We all know what needs to happen next.” Mendoza speaks in Spanish and then says “We want Legado del Fantasma vs. NXT for the tag team titles!” Escobar: “The measure of a man is not what he can do for himself but what he does for his brothers.” KUSHIDA interrupts on the video screen. “Last week, that was a mistake. Next week, me versus you, NXT cruiserweight championship. Let’s do it!” Escobar says “YOU’RE ON.”
Guess what? MORE TALKING. Raquel González and Mercedes Martinez both have something to say, and they keep interrupting each other on a split screen. Martinez says González doesn’t scare her. González: “When I look into your eyes, all I see is a woman who is going to get her ass kicked.” Martinez: “I paved the roads for you. The roads I drove before you. You’re not gritty. You are cookie cutter. I wasn’t! As a matter of fact you may not see it but you were molded after the blueprint I created.” González: “You did set the bar, but you set it down here, but I picked it up and set it up so high that no one else can reach it. In my one year I have surpassed all of your accomplishments in your entire career.” Martinez: “And in one night I will end your championship reign.” González: “No chiquita. You may be the first but you won’t be the last.” That’s next week!
Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart are headed to the ring for our main event next, but first they play with Franky Monet’s puppy... which apparently pooped in Shotzi’s tank. Yuck!
Cameron Grimes can’t get into VIP at the club because the whole club has been rented out by one man. You can already guess who it is — the “Million Dollar Man.” Ted DiBiase: “Learn a lesson kid — don’t rent the room when you can buy the whole place.” Grimes screams and we learn that KUSHIDA vs. Escobar next week will be 2 out of 3 falls!
Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon (champs) vs. Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell (street fight for the women’s tag team titles)
The “big match intro” is interrupted as all four women start brawling, and Wade Barrett says “we don’t need ring announcements where we’re going.” We also don’t need them because there’s been a lot of talking this week and there are only nine minutes left (barring an overrun). LeRae goes under the ring to pull out a pile of steel chairs. Moon gives her a reverse kick to the gut. Blackheart chases down Hartwell. Moon throws trash cans into the ring. Blackheart smashes Hartwell’s head into a table. There aren’t enough cameras to keep up with all of the action. Try not to get nausea from the floating movement and quick cuts. Finally we get Hartwell in the ring with the champs, which helps with the cameras a LITTLE bit. Moon picks up a trash can and gently puts it over Hartwell’s head so they can hit stereo dropkicks. LeRae breaks up the near fall. LeRae does a baseball slide to the outside and takes stereo trash can lids to the head! Moon and Blackheart pull out another table and slide it into the ring. Hartwell cuts Moon off and throws her into the plexiglass, then drops Blackheart face first on the apron. She throws Moon onto the barricade and kicks her in the face, then starts setting up all the steel chairs for some spot to come. Blackheart cuts her off. Moon drives Hartwell face first into a chair. Blackheart sets a fifth chair on top of the other four. Moon and Blackheart get in the ring to do a spot but LeRae shoots a fire extinguisher into their faces to send us to a commercial at 9:57 ET!
A table has been set up in the corner while we were away. Moon and Blackheart double team Hartwell as she’s laid on the ropes, and then throw LeRae into the ring post shoulder first, sending her tumbling to the floor. Moon chucks a chair at Hartwell in a potential concussion inducer. Hartwell breaks up a near fall on LeRae. Moon hits her with a right hand and LeRae with a superkick. Double forearms by the champs to Hartwell, and they bump chests to celebrate. Blackheart climbs to the top with LeRae laying on a ladder (she must have landed on it when she was sent into the ring post) and Blackheart goes for a senton. She sends both of them to the floor and the ladder barely breaks, so it was an ugly landing. Back in the ring Hartwell is sent into a table for a near fall. Outside the ring Blackheart is sending a ladder in to Moon. Hartwell kicks it into their faces. She bridges it on the ropes and LeRae has just crawled back into the ring. She hits a springboard moonsault into the ladder that Blackheart has been laid out on for a near fall.
Spinebuster onto the ladder by Hartwell to Moon for a near fall as Blackheart breaks it up at the last second. Hartwell pulls Blackheart out and throws her into the plexiglass by the announce table, then starts dismantling the table as the announcers flee and the NeXTras pound on the glass. Blackheart breaks Barrett’s coffee mug on Hartwell’s head and then climbs up the rigging for the lights. SPLASH! Through the announce table and both women are down. The NeXTras chant “THIS IS AWESOME.” Back in the ring LeRae gets a near fall and Moon hits a power bomb for one of her own. Moon grabs a pair of chairs then changes directions and goes to the ropes for an Eclipse. LeRae blocks it, but Blackheart runs into the ring and breaks up whatever LeRae was going to do. Hartwell got back in the ring but just so she could leap out of it to send Moon through a table on the outside. LeRae with a Wicked Stepsister onto the steel chair and the pinfall!
Your winners and NEW tag team champions: Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell
That’s all from the Capitol Wrestling Center tonight! See you in seven.
