AJ Styles & Omos remain Raw tag team champions after Elias abandons Jaxson Ryker

This is an interesting decision.

Jaxson Ryker and Elias have been battling back-and-forth with AJ Styles & Omos in the last few weeks, leading to the two getting a shot at the Raw tag team titles on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. It went about the way you would expect, what with Omos being booked as an unstoppable monster who is just running through everyone.

What you may not have expected was Elias abandoning Ryker.

Before the match, a backstage segment showed Elias asking if Ryker had ever been to battle and Ryker responding by saying he served in Iraq. Then he was made the sympathetic figure, with his partner walking out on him.

This is an interesting choice, considering Ryker caught a lot of heat for a very dumb and bad tweet last year that had his contemporaries publicly calling him out, and reportedly resulted in higher ups nixing a planned tag team title run for The Forgotten Sons. They were yanked from television altogether, in fact, and ultimately broken up. Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler were eventually released by the company but Ryker, inexplicably, was kept on and paired with Elias late last year.

Now, it seems they’re at least teasing out a babyface singles run.

We’ll see how it turns out.
