WWE SmackDown results, live blog (May 28, 2021): Usos vs. Street Profits

WWE.com

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (May 28, 2021) with a show from the ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, featuring all the latest build to the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for next month in the very same venue.

The big match advertised for tonight’s episode is the Street Profits versus the Usos. This will be Jimmy and Jey’s first match as a team since Jimmy returned to WWE earlier this month. Jey’s loyalty will be tested because it appears that this tag match for the Usos, which Jimmy requested, doesn’t have the blessing of the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on FOX. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 28

Now I know, now I know that you’re coming with your guns a-blazing. There’s nowhere to go, in the end its gonna be hell you’re facing, but me? I’ve got to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for these folks.

The show opens with the Usos hanging out backstage and Jimmy giving Jey a pep talk.

Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman roll up.

Paul goes to start talking but backs off on a look from Roman, and Roman asks his cousins if they feel good, because they look good. He wants to know what the game plan is, and Jimmy says they’re gonna go out there and win and get the gold for the whole family. Reigns seems to accept this and wishes them luck, but adds “...because you’re gonna need it” when Jimmy runs off all hyped.

Reigns asks Jey if his brother is talking for him now and Uso looks pensive for a long beat before saying that even though he’s with Jimmy tonight, Roman should know that he’s with him. Reigns says maybe he should tell Jimmy that.

Street Profits make their entrance and get on the mic.

They said they had some fun at the Usos expense last week but really they were flattered by the challenge, but they don’t think they’re getting the best version of the Usos, given that Jimmy’s been on the shelf for a year and Roman is living Jey’s head rent-free.

The Usos make their entrance, mics in hand ready to rebut.

Jimmy says the Profits got jokes but it doesn’t matter because the best damn tag team in the business is back. He lists their accolades off and Jey says if they say another word about Roman, he’ll drop ‘em where they stand. They want to stick their nose in family business, now they got to get them. Call this a dream match? Welcome to the nightmare! (Whoa-oh-oh-oh...)

Angelo Dawkins says he’ll give them credit, they used to run the tag division, but he’s got news for them, they run the tag division now. The Usos welcome them to the Uso Penitentiary and we go to break ahead of the match.

Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs. the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso)

Dawkins and Jimmy to start, collar and elbow, jockeying for position in the corner, Angelo with a shoulder block, off the ropes, drop down, shoulder block, tag to Ford! Back suplex drops him into a splash on Uso but Jimmy gets away and makes the tag! Circling, Jey in with a boot, right hands, backing Montez into the corner, whip across, up and over, Ford showing off and dropping Uso with an arm drag into an armbar!

Tag to Dawkins, double back suplex, working Jey over but unable to put him away! Uso rams him into the corner, tag to Jimmy, double teams, falling headbutt, slicing into Angelo with chops! Arm wringer, Dawkins with a kick to the midsection, an arm drag into an armbar! Recovering, Uso puts boots to him and tags his brother in!

Side headlock, shot off, Angelo with another arm drag and a tag to Montez. Whip into a dropkick, another dropkick takes Jey out and the Profits clothesline the Usos to the floor! Action to the floor, throwing Jey into the barricade and tossing Jimmy over the announce table as we go to break!

Back from commercial, Jey with the blind tag, he pulls Ford out of the ring and throws him into the barricade! Back inside, leaving Montez limping, crawling, trying to beat referee Dan Engler’s count but Jey goes out after him and puts him into the barricade a second time! Back in the ring, Uso with a back suplex, tag to Jimmy, Demolition Decapitation connects!

Roman Reigns is seen watching backstage, cover for two, reverse chinlock applied but Ford gets to his feet and reaches for the tag. Straight suplex cuts him off, cover for two, Jey beating him down, off the ropes and sliding into the reverse chinlock! Montez fights to his feet, Usos with a tag, Ford a windmill of punches trying to get some separation!

Backflip into an enzuigiri, Jimmy rolls out of the ring and the path is clear... BUT JEY PULLS DAWKINS OFF THE APRON TO DENY THE TAG! Samoan Drop... FORD KICKS OUT AND WE GO TO BREAK!

Back from commercial, jockeying for position in the turnbuckles, Jey knocks Montez down to the apron with a right hand! Drawing him back up, Ford catches him with a gamengiri, off the top, nobody home, double lariats leave both men down and out! Dawkins with the hot tag, Jey cuts him off with a superkick and tags Jimmy in! Angelo ducks a lariat, corkscrew elbow, pop-up drop... NOPE!

Jimmy with a gamengiri, headed up top, Dawkins cuts him off with a right... FORD WITH THE OVER THE POST TOPE CON GIRO TO TAKE JEY USO OUT! Jimmy blocks the Drill Bit and connects with a superkick... NOT ENOUGH! Dawkins with a pounce, Drill Bit connects this time... STILL NO! Looking for another Drill Bit, back and forth, tag to Ford, Angelo with the spinebuster, Montez off the top... JEY PULLS JIMMY OUT OF THE WAY OF THE FROG SPLASH!

Dawkins with a pounce to Jey, Jimmy turns to Ford, basement superkick... IT’S OVER!

The Usos win by pinfall with a basement superkick from Jimmy Uso on Montez Ford.

The Dirty Dawgz are interviewed backstage.

Robert Roode admits their strategy at WrestleMania Backlash was flawed and invoked Rey Mysterio’s paternal instincts and gave him the ferocity of three men. But tonight they’ve gone back to the drawing board and things will be different this time.

Natalya & Tamina make their entrance to send us to break.

Natalya & Tamina vs. Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott)

Back from commercial, the match is joined in progress with the Riott Squad working Natalya over. A sweet inverted surfboard upkick into the corner headscissors, folding press, no good! Ruby legal, reverse chinlock applied, Neidhart slings her off but riott gets another nearfall. Nattie nearly gets a double Sharpshooter, and Tamina shoves Liv into the pin to break it up!

Snuka tags in, clubs Riott down, headed up top, Natalya takes Morgan out, Tamina blocks an arm drag and headbutts Ruby to the mat! Snuka off the top...

Natalya & Tamina win by pinfall with the Superfly Splash from Tamina on Ruby Riott.

Five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is backstage when the Usos roll up.

They talk up their victory and make their pitch for a tag title shot next week. Pearce says he can do that and to consider it official. Jimmy celebrates but Jey takes a deep awkward breath.

Bianca Belair makes her entrance and we go to break.

Carmella is interviewed in Gorilla while she touches up her lipstick because vanity is meant to be bad, or something.

She’s catty about Kayla Braxton’s dress and Bianca Belair’s victory at WrestleMania Backlash before hyping up her achievements and claiming that she’s going to end Bianca’s happily-ever-after.

Bianca Belair vs. Carmella

Bayley interrupts before the bell, commandeering herself a spot at commentary.

Belair rams Carmella into the turnbuckles, shoulder thrusts on shoulder thrusts, referee Jessika Carr has to warn her to back off! Mella off the ropes, satellite tijeras and Bianca rolls to the floor! Military press to throw Carmella back in the ring, jockeying for position over the ropes, out to the apron, X-Factor on the apron! Rolling her in for the cover... NOPE!

Carmella with back elbows in the corner, reverse chinlock applied, Belair to her feet, back elbows and a backbreaker to force the break! Shoulder thrusts for back elbows, Mella goes up top, diving crossbody, roll through and Bianca deadlifts her into a fallaway slam! Kip-up, fired up, handspring moonsault... ONLY TWO!

Carmella with a hanging figure four headscissors over the ropes, breaking at four, clubbing blows out on the apron! Superkick follows, back inside, still not enough to keep Belair down! Jackknife pin reversed, Code of Silence denied, superkick connects, X-Factor blocked, Bianca gets her up...

Bianca Belair wins by pinfall with the KOD.

Post-match, Bayley taunts Bianca at length from the commentary desk.

The Mysterios are interviewed backstage.

They say they have a gameplan, too— their motivation is incomparable and nobody has a bond like they do. No tag team in the world can top this.

Seth Rollins makes his entrance to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Seth Rollins says he didn’t come to talk, he came to fight, and he calls Cesaro to the ring to finish things right now.

Oh but silly him, Cesaro’s not here to ruin the greatest day of the year, his birthday. A recap of just why Cesaro isn’t here tonight follows. He shushes the crowd and plays audio that’s meant to be our little secret, and it’s a heart monitor and a man moaning? But in all seriousness, what happened to Cesaro was unfortunate and he blacked out and isn’t entirely sure what happened.

He’s sorry for what happened but blames Cesaro and claims to be a man of integrity and responsibility. He also blames us watching at home right now, because we’re the ones that brainwashed Cesaro into believing it’s okay for him to look right through Rollins. He sings himself a few bars of Happy Birthday to close the segment.

We see Kevin Owens walking backstage to send us to break.

Apollo Crews vs. Kevin Owens

Owens right in with punches, cannonball in the corner, headed up top, senton atomico... NOPE! Jockeying for position over the ropes, nobody home when Crews dives, Owens with a superkick, pop-up powerbomb blocked, Stunner connects but Commander Azeez is right there with the Nigerian Nail...

Kevin Owens wins by disqualification.

Owens sells the injury as Crews and Azeez stand tall.

Paul Heyman introduces Jey Uso in Roman Reigns’ office and leaves.

Jey sits next to his cousin and Roman says he sees they got the tag title match next week and asks Uso if that’s what he wants to do and why he told him that he’d be with him if he’s having this match. He continues to abuse his cousin and feign concern for him “going back to the opening match” alongside his brother.

Jey admits he never thought about it like that.

Rick Boogs plays Shinsuke Nakamura in and we go to break.

Chad Gable vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Otis Dozovic hits a World’s Strongest Slam on Nakamura before the bell!

Gable right in with a pair of belly-to-belly suplexes, only two, back elbows, off the ropes, Shinsuke with a jumpkick, lighting him up with punches and kicks, booting Otis off the apron, but Chad gets boots up on the charge and puts him in a cross armbar in the ropes! Shoulder armbreaker into an arm drag, Gable up top, nobody home on the moonsault and Shinsuke catches him with a 540 roundhouse!

Baron Corbin reclaims his crown from commentary, Nakamura charges in, Gable sidesteps, Chaos Theory reversed into a victory roll for two! Thinking fast...

Shinsuke Nakamura wins by pinfall with Kinshasa.

Post-match, Corbin crows about being the only king but Boogs attacks him from behind and Nakamura takes his crown back!

Five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce checks on Kevin Owens in the trainer’s room.

He chokes and dry heaves and demands a title match against Crews with Azeez banned from ringside, and Pearce gives it to him.

Rey Mysterio is praying before his match, Dominik lets him know they’re next and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Rey is laying on the floor in pain, clutching his ribs while Dominik, referee Dan Engler, and a trainer try to help him up.

They can’t get him vertical, referee Jessika Carr rolls up, and we cut away uncertain of the fate of our tag team title match.

The Dirty Dawgz get on the mic and they say they wanted a fair fight but they’ll totally take a forfeit and try to cajole referee Ryan Tran into declaring their victory and handing them the titles.

Pearce is about to declare the forfeit backstage but Dominik says his dad stepped up for him last week and he’s gonna step up for him now. Ziggler mocks his decision and Roode tries to get the match called but the fight is on!

Dominik makes his entrance and we go to break.

Dirty Dawgz (Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode) vs. Dominik & Rey Mysterio (c) (WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)

Dominik hot out the gates but Ziggler cuts him off with a dropkick and gets a two-count! The Dawgz work Mysterio over at length, he finally starts to rally, back body drop sends Dolph to the floor! Plancha takes both challengers out, back inside, Ziggler ducks the 619 and hits the Fameasser... NOPE! Double-team powerbomb / neckbreaker... DOMINIK KICKS OUT!

Rey Mysterio makes his entrance, Dominik catches Roode...

Dominik & Rey Mysterio win by pinfall with a bridging pin from Dominik on Robert Roode to retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

The Usos make their entrance to confront the champs ahead of their title match next week while Roman Reigns watches from backstage.

That’s the show, folks.
