Multiple outlets are reporting that WWE is making cuts in a number of corporate departments today (May 25).
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer writes that was told the layoffs are coming as the result of “a re-examining of the business due to COVID-19 and discovering a lot of redundancy in duties.” Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp notes the Advanced Media and Television departments have been merged, and that many of those being let go worked in editorial and production. Staff at WWE.com and the company’s YouTube channels were also laid off.
The Advanced Media Group included the WWE Network, and the Peacock deal may have played a role in this restructuring. Mike Johnson at PWInsider says “the Advanced Media Group was all but destroyed today,” and there’s a lot of stress among remaining employees who now have more responsibilities to deal with on a day-to-day basis.
The collapsed divisions will now be run by Executive Vice President of Television Production Kevin Dunn. The executives who ran Advanced Media and Production, Jaylar Donlan and Brian Pellegatto, were the highest ranking employees laid off.
Best wishes to anyone who lost their job today. More as we have it.
