Report: The Miz suffered a torn ACL in zombie lumberjack match

The Miz did not return to Raw last night (May 17), one night after being “eaten” by zombies at WrestleMania Backlash in a controversial promotional tie-in to Dave Bautista’s new movie Army of the Dead.

Just like Miz has earlier in the day on Twitter...

...his partner John Morrison playfully sold the previous night’s scene before his (non-zombie) lumberjack match against Damian Priest.

But it turns out the situation is more serious than all that. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer expounded on the item he’d reported earlier on Monday about the A-Lister:

“He tore his ACL but we don’t know the severity of the tear. The last I heard is they hoped it was a partial tear, so that may not be that serious. If it’s a full tear, you know, that’s surgery and probably 7, 8, 9 months. And at 40... it’s not the best thing in the world. He’ll come back from, I’m sure he will, but that’s a lot of time off. Hopefully for the best, it’s partial and he can make a quicker recovery. But that injury’s legit.”

It’s believed he was hurt on the spot where Priest landed on his leg after a kick from the top.

As Meltzer says, it’s a bummer - for multiple reasons. It’s the first significant injury of Miz’s career (his health was a talking point in his legendary Talking Smack promo, and his entire feud with Daniel Bryan). That it happened in one of the “make chicken salad out of chicken s***” type angles he’s worked to sell for WWE over his time with the company seems both fitting, and sad.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for a partial tear the Awesome one can rehab and return from in relatively short order. While we’re doing that, we’ll expect Miz to keep us updated on his new cravings for brains.
