Bayley and Bianca Belair each had one win against the other heading into their match at WrestleMania Backlash on May 16. That was the basis for a solid story, with the Role Model looking to humble the young SmackDown Women’s champion, and reclaim the title she carried for much of 2019 and 2020.
Really though, this was about establishing The EST with another strong showing, and another win over an NXT Horsewoman.
Mission accomplished, but the job might not be finished.
It was all Belair at the start, including a nifty callback to the spots where Sasha Banks used Bianca’s braid against her at WrestleMania 37. Instead, we saw a new way Belair’s hair can hurt an opponent.
Bayley turned the tide on the outside by dropping the champ on the steel steps, and did a whole lot of trash talking after she did so.
Like the beginning, Bianca’s hair played a big role in the finish. Bayley was eventually able to use it against her, pulling Belair into a Bayley-to-Belly after raking her eyes. The champ kicked out however, and used her braid as leverage when she rolled Bayley up for three.
It wasn’t the cleanest finish, and the challenger made sure that was noted.
Could we have more Belair vs. Bayley coming out way?
