Before she gets a chance to reclaim the Raw Women’s championship - and get a measure of revenge on her rival-turned partner-turned rival Charlotte Flair - at WrestleMania Backlash this Sunday, Asuka’s been doing some press.
The Empress of Tomorrow chatted with ET Canada’s Shakiel Mahjouri, specifically about May being Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. I particularly love her straight-forward response to the recent increase in verbal & physical attacks against Asians, which is a great way to address racism in general:
“I hate it! I hate it! I don’t understand. It’s a waste of time to be hateful. Why people attack other people? We are people, right? I don’t understand. I hate it.”
She also addressed her wrestling future, and the eternal question of dream matches. Asuka told Mahjouri she hopes to use her WWE run to introduce herself and Japanese culture to more people. And if she lands a match with any of the three wrestlers on her wish list, she certainly will...
“I want to wrestle with Triple H and Ric Flair. I fought many great WWE superstars. Oh, [I want to wrestle] Ronda Rousey. One day!”
Keep hope alive, Asuka - for less hate, and for those matches.
