CM Punk mocks Vince McMahon screaming in his ear on commentary

Charlotte Flair sat in on the Raw commentary table earlier this week for a match between Rhea Ripely and Asuka. Flair was pretty much the star of the segment.

On her Twitter, Flair posted a picture of herself at the commentary table and asked everyone to caption it. That’s when CM Punk decided to play along:

There was a period of time in late 2010 when Punk was injured and unable to compete in a WWE ring. He remained on television in a commentary role, which was the inspiration for the part of his famous pipe bomb promo in 2011 where he said he proved he was even the best on commentary.

Punk has since told stories about what it was like to be on the receiving end of Vince McMahon yelling in his ear when sitting in on the commentary table. Punk specifically told Renee Paquette on her Oral Sessions podcast that it got to the point where he simply lowered the volume all the way down so that he couldn’t hear Vince’s nonsense anymore.

One hilarious story he told involved John Cena tossing away the monitors from the commentary table before breaking the table as part of a match. Cena and his opponent then took off to a distant part of the arena, out of sight of the commentators. And there Vince was screaming in their ears, “Call what’s on the fucking monitors!” To which Josh Mathews live on the air replied, “We don’t have any fucking monitors!”

I’m going to take Punk’s caption above as a brief trip down memory lane for the kind of crap he used to receive from Vince while doing commentary in WWE all those years ago, pal.
