WWE Creative had no match planned for Bayley at WrestleMania 37, probably because women still have a difficult time getting pay-per-view matches in WWE when no championship is on the line.
Some fans thought maybe WWE was holding Bayley out of a WrestleMania match because she was instead going to host the event. It turns out that Hulk Hogan and Titus O’Neil were announced as the hosts for both nights.
One popular rumor going around was that the plan might be for Bayley to host her “Ding Ding Hello” talk show at WrestleMania 37, only for Becky Lynch to return to WWE and kick her butt. The rumor gained so much steam that Becky herself poured gasoline on the fire. Despite all the buzz, it never happened. Bayley’s role at WrestleMania 37 turned out to be interrupting Hulk and Titus a few times, and being thrown down the WrestleMania stage by Nikki and Brie Bella.
In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Rick Ucchino, Bayley said those actual plans for her at WrestleMania developed at the last minute:
“Not to give too much away, but that was a very last minute thing, you know? And I think it did have a big deal to do with people on Twitter and people kind of speaking their voice, which I appreciate, but I would have liked the two nights off, guys. It would have been nice to sit back for once. I had to defend so many titles in the past at WrestleMania, so it would have been nice. And then I try to do something good for them, and then I get tossed off the frickin’ stage by [the Bella twins]. So embarrassing. But you know what, it’s all good. It’s all in the past, and I’m back where I’m supposed to be.”
Bayley then addressed the rumored angle with Lynch, dismissing it as “wishful thinking” from the fans:
I think it’s just wishful thinking, and I think it’s people just ready to see Becky back and ready to see me get my butt kicked, I guess. It’s not gonna happen ‘cause she didn’t come back, suckers...
I’m sure it’ll happen some time. We both have some time left here. We both still have a lot of things we want to do. I’m sure she has a list of things she wants to do. The last time I think we were in the ring together may have been when I beat her up with a chair. Maybe a few times after that.
I’m sure she’s ready to get her hands on me and I’ll be ready, because I’ve been doing a lot since she’s been gone. This is consistent Bayley right here. No time off for me. I’ve been making moves, Becky Lynch...I know she gave up her championship, but that don’t mean she’s gonna come back and be right back in that picture. She better start out at the very bottom.”
So there you go. Wrestling fans may have helped Bayley get onto the WrestleMania card in some form by speaking up on social media, but the Lynch return was probably never a realistic option.
One month later, how do you feel about the way Bayley was booked at WrestleMania 37?
