However you feel about the WrestleMania 37 match card and line up, there’s at least one reason to be excited about the upcoming two-night event on Sat., April 10 and Sun., April 11, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
Fans are back!
The stadium won’t be full, of course, so it won’t be a normal show in that sense but there may be around 25,000 people on each night. What makes this noteworthy, beyond simply having real live people there to react to what is happening in the ring, is that said reaction will be organic for the first time since the creation of the ThunderDome. For the past eight months or so, Vince McMahon has been in full control of the reactions we hear on WWE programming. If there is booing for a certain wrestler or cheering for another, it is because that’s what the powers that be decided upon.
The power disappears at WrestleMania 37. Which makes matches like Roman Reigns vs. Edge vs. Daniel Bryan that much more interesting.
Reigns is a heel but he’s done quite literally the best work of his career as the mob boss type heading up SmackDown as the Universal champion. He’s the kind of character a lot of so called smark fans love. It seems entirely possible he’ll be cheered instead of booed.
Edge is also working heel, though you could argue he’s a tweener too, but his story is such that fans very well may also want to cheer him. He came back after a decade away, had some damn good matches with Randy Orton, got injured again, then returned and won the Royal Rumble from the number one spot. His story is that he’s trying to win back the title the title he never lost when he was forced to retire back in 2011.
Bryan is the babyface in this story and he’s a guy you would think will always be cheered.
Call me crazy here but it seems entirely possible to me that all three of these guys are cheered and no one gets booed in this match. But I want your thoughts, dear readers.
