With mass chaos!
The women’s tag team titles have more or less taken a backseat over the past few months, as Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler have been cast in a supporting role for the SmackDown women’s championship story and even next week in the Raw women’s championship story. It’s an admittedly easy trope that WWE falls back on often when building to a big singles match, and they did it twice this year.
But there are still tag titles to be defended, damn it!
If we’re to believe the rumors, there will be a top contender match on night one of WrestleMania 37 on April 10 followed by the winner of that match challenging the champs on night two on April 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. But who will be in the top contender match?
Based on the above video, from this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, it sure looks like WWE is letting us know:
- Natalya & Tamina
- Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott
- Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke
- Lana & Naomi
It’s at least possible they add to this, considering Billie Kay gave her résumé to Carmella, who appeared to be strongly considering it. That would get both of them on the card and account for pretty much the entirety of the women’s division outside of Charlotte Flair, who has been out after contracting COVID-19, Bayley, who simply doesn’t have any creative direction right now, and Peyton Royce, who is in the same boat as Bayley.
There are two episodes of television to work out the rest of it but at the very least, those four teams appear to be locked in.
